Thought this was a problem with the sound bar but reverting back to the TV speakers and it seems we've lost all sound from the SD channels?
Any ideas why this might be?
Firmware update!
You mean I need a new TV?
All available updates are done!
No, I mean it's done a firmware update last night, and they've "improved" it in some way that breaks SD audio.
Maybe the manufacturer has a twitter account or facebook, or some such?
Bumping as I haven't found a way of fixing this!!
Is it all SD channels or just some?
Might be worth doing a rescan so that the STB (I'm assuming you use one) is picking up the latest channel list.
Re-tune a good shout - will try that. Yes, all SD channels. Stuff recorded from SD channels also silent...
I had similar on mine, looked through the menus on the TV and there are a couple of different output formats for the audio on the TV tuner. Selected a different one and it now works through the soundbar again.
I vaguely recall having a similar problem but am struggling to remember the resolution
Try playing with the output sound mode, I think there is a difference between how SD and Hd are processed and there is a setting that will process both
I tried changing output to stereo from multi-channel but that didn't help. I would point out that it has worked well for a long time prior to this happening.
The newest part of the system is the Naim Muso that I am using as a soundbar but it has worked for a couple of months
If your recordings are silent then it's likely to be an option on the firmware update that's changed its default. As @peekay and @grantmcall63 say, have a look around the menu system and play with the output settings.
I can only think that this is just broken.
Lack of HD sound would make more sense, if you're driving something fancy that the audio processor cannot decode, like sending Dolby Digital to something that only understands PCM or something.
Lack of SD audio but HD is working, I cannot think of a scenario or setting offhand that would cause that in the TV itself unless you've got something that says audio:external and are sending SD and HD down different interconnects? Even then, I'm clutching at straws really.
We had a similar issue. Switching the TV off and unplugging it for a couple of minutes and then switching it back on sorted it out. Maybe worth a try if you haven't done it yet.
Or....have you got an AV receiver?
SD channels will all be stereo PCM. HD might be encoded audio (Dolby Digital Plus, etc).
Thinking about this, it must be a setting somewhere.
It has worked fine, it now doesn't.
HD works so sound is getting through somehow, not as if the TV or Muso is completely shot.
Will try the old off, on again routine and the re-tune.

It has worked fine, it now doesn’t.
Yeah, that's what I thought. With us the sound worked with Netflix, but not on Sky, which was a bit weird. I checked all the settings etc, but switching it off, giving it a couple of minutes and switching it on again worked for me. There was no logic to it. Anyway, worth a try if only just to eliminate it as a potential solution.
What make of tv?
LG Oled, damn nice TV!
It won't be this, I'm not even sure it's applicable, but is PAL set to B/G, instead of I?
First thing I would try is a factory reset, Freeview have been changing some of the channel numbers around in my area in the last couple of weeks and it’s caused a few problems, I had one customer who’s tv decided to change the menu to Turkish!
If that doesn’t do the job I would call LG in the morning or where you purchased it from.
Random thought and I don't know exactly what it'd prove beyond my own curiosity but, have you got a DVD player? What's that do?
First thing I would try is a factory reset
TBH, that's probably the best advice on the thread so far.
OK - its fixed. Its looking like user error!!
As we use the Muso for the sound output, we were advised to reduce the volume on the tv remote to zero, to avoid two sounds blaring at us.
This was done hence the months of perfectly OK operation. I suspect that someone has also decided to reduce the volume on the Humax, which seems to have led to zero sound on the SD channels. Still confused as to why the HD channel sound remained fine but at least its all functioning again. This also allows a matching of SD volume against HD volume - previously SD was lower than HD.
Thanks for the suggestions!
