New light fitting (on the right) clips in to a mount. There are no screws and the instructions are no use. Anybody know what I'm supposed to do with it? Solder the connection?

What, exactly are you trying to do - replace the mount on the left with the one on the right ??

As cranberry said, what are you trying to do? They are completely different fittings, one's bayonet, the other screw

I'm guessing that cable your trying to connect to is a two core with each core being multi strand.

The cable connection points are/look like 😐 |: one wire goes into one connection on each side. You use a flat screwdriver in the slot to open a spring loaded connector, replacing screw connections. I guessing that you know it uses a different bulb type ( screw thread not bayonet).

You just push the wires in to the new fitting. springs and friction hold them in place.

If you have never seen such a fitting should you be doing electrical work?!

Get a grip, man. It's only a light fitting.
