I've got a weird pain in my heel, it's at the back and low down on the left side of my left heel - just above the sole. It only really occurs when I'm stretching the calf with my leg straight at the knee and I'm bending forwards (e.g. in down dog) and it feels almost like there's something loose/clicking which is causing a sharp but not intolerable pain. I can walk, run, jump, and cycle without any (apparent) issues with it, so it's not causing any immediate issues but I'm concerned it's the precursor to something worse! Obviously I should just go to the physio and get it checked out, but thought I'd ask if anyone has had anything similar?
I'd guess your achilles as I had a similar injury from down dog. Didn't think I was doing any harm or over stretching but it's the only thing I can put it down to.

If it is your achilles. Get it sorted asap... took me ages to realise what was going on and two years later I can still occasionally feel it's not 100%...
Yeah, that's my concern, don't really want a long term achilles injury! There was no apparent cause with mine either, just started hurting one day.
Could be plantar fasciitis - something like inflammation of the plantar fascia, which can be connected to insufficient arch support. It tends to pull on the surrounding muscles/ tendons etc, and may cause pain around the base of the achilles.
I know cause I have it! And in a year or so I've failed to really solve it, although I have reduced the symptoms somewhat

If its not causing any pain its unlikely to be serious. That location is unlikely to be Plantar fascia as that is more usually under the heel. In the place you mention its more likely to be insertional achilles pain or possibly an inflamed bursar. I wouldnt worry too much until it becomes painful. If you can hop/jump on it then its unlikely to be an issue imo. Ice can help but dont stretch as that may aggravate it. IANAD

This is probably really good advice tbh, I'm a big fan of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. Quite often if you go chasing after some phantom injury you end up causing more problems than when you started

It would be better to do heel drops if its insertional. Use both feet to lift yourself on to your tiptoes then put all weight on affected leg only and lower yourself down. repeat lots of times.

What did the new shoes do/ have that the old ones didn't, for you?
Saw the physio today, he reckons it's an insertional Achilles tendon issue as suggested by a few above, hopefully the exercises he's given me sort it out!
What exercises did you get given in the end?
