next weekend i'm staying in York near the train station and need somewhere to park my car for the weekend (from 6pm friday to 11am sunday). can anyone recommend somewhere that it'll be safe?
i've found nunnery lane which I think is free from 6pm but charges from 8am so I don't want to have to be getting up before 8 both mornings to put a ticket in the car. are there any restrictions to parking on the roads? any long stay ncp multistoreys?
Try the train station car park or the railway museum
Use the park and ride, think that's free.
do I take it parking on the roads is not an option in York then?

Ohh, you kidder.
Seriously, there is nowhere in the centre (that I can think of) where you could park it all weekend other than the car parks.
There is an NCP down near Travelodge to the east of the centre or head out towards the racecourse and beyond (Tadcaster Road area) and the restrictions may stop, but it is a walk back into town.
Or if you are happy walking, park at the Tesco near the College (some way down Tadcaster Road) - it is walkable (we used to walk into the City from college all the time) but it is some distance.
You can park free in these streets:
- Grosvenor Terrace
- Scarborogh Terrace
- Filey Terrace
- Radcliffe Street
and probably others in the same area.
Quite safe as I park there regularly when I visit my daughter who is at University there.
Have a good Trip!
Forgot to say it's only about 5-7 mins walk into York centre.
What greenboy said, head out from the town centre along Bootham and I think as you cross the railway bridge, the roads from there out are mostly free to park on. Roads between Clifton Green and the river are very nice (parking is free on The Avenue I think) and you've got a wander along the river towards town and then cross Scarborough Bridge to get to the railway station. Or head out along Tadcaster Road and do the same. Nice (safe) area between Taddy Rd and the railway line. To be honest, Nunnery Lane is one of the few places near the town centre I wouldn't leave my car overnight!
