Hi, My girlfriends birthday is in a few days and she's been hinting she'd like to go to Paris for a weekend so I'm thinking of planning a trip for the first weekend in September. I've never been to Paris so any areas/hotels I should definatelly consider/stay well away from. We'll be doing the usual touristy stuff. Thanks
I stayed here with the missus, very handy for most of the attractions:

Second (I think) Sunday of every month is free entry into The Louvre 🙂
Get the Time Out guide - you'll find MUCH better places to eat, see, drink than by just wandering around. I recall a great (ex) soup kitchen near Notre Dame that does AMAZING food - big tables, share with others, mingle and absorb the amazing atmosphere.
I stayed here a couple of years ago

really nice, highly recommended, and can get deals on late rooms etc.. as well as on their own website.
personally i wouldnt bother with the louve (??) it will be packed and its so massive you wont get to see hardly any of it, even if you spend all weekend there. there are plenty of other galleries in paris which have as much if not mor famous pics in them and are loads smaller.
we did this

it was ace fun. they dont take you to all the obvious places as they know that you will do that yourself.
take an evening trip on the seinne. plan to do it just before sunset then by the time you get to the eiffel tower it is just being lit up. which is quite something to see.
be aware of the scam artists that are around paris. there are loads of them around the major tourist areas. i honestly dont know how people fall for their scams, they're so idiotic, but they do, so be aware.
do as much walking as you can. its loads more pleasurable than taxi's or the metro.
we stayed outside the city at nanterre.

not exactly the ritz but clean nd tidy and an easy metro into the city. was cheap as chips too if i remember correctly.
im sure there is loads more i could say about it but my minds gone blank. if i think of anything else ill let you know.
oh when we were there it was the first sunday of the month that was free museum day.
