I really need some inspiration. We saved some money over Christmas as we had Covid. It was also my birthday this week and I spent it at work.  Its been a stressy week for both of us so we haven't had any planning time but we could really do with a bit of fun.

So any ideas? Somewhere in the South of England (East of Devon), bike, walk, city break, anything really.

Thank you

Lyme Regis - coast, walks, fossils if you want to, good selection of good foody and drinky places.

*Edit - or actually, Cirencester. Nice market town, selection of pubs and eating places, great roady riding, and this is the perfect time of the year to go for a country walk to an old pub in the middle of a cute village that does a great roast dinner, and there's tonnes of them in that part of the world.

Thanks but we're still in a post Covid slump so probably a bit more than we could cope with.

To clarify, we're in Buckinghamshire, I meant we're looking for somewhere east of Devon.

Portland? Was surprisingly nice when we stayed there.

You could get to Lille in an  an hour a half  from kings cross if you want a bit more of a trip

Purbecks? Coastal walks and a mandatory stop at the Square and Compass at Worth Matravers.

Petersfield area.

Ride the lanes/hills.

Or head to SDW/QECP/Rogate.

Is that why we have the phrase Rye Smile?

Isle of wight is great if the weather is good.  Expensive crossing though.

Isle of Purbeck is worth considering...

  • Square and compass (as already mentioned)
  • The newly discovered fossilized sea monster head is now on display in Kimmeridge I think
  • Some good riding round Corfe and Studland
  • Lulworth cove
  • Durdle door

Thanks again.

We have family in Swanage so we know Purbeck well.  Sailsbury or Cirencester looking good at the moment. Never been to either.

Thanks again everyone, sorry I didn't reply @creakingdoor.

Work got in the way again, so we couldn't go until Saturday.  At which point we just needed easy.  So we booked the closest seaside Premier Inn with parking.

Thank you Worthing we had a lovely day.

However, there were some great ideas in this thread.  I also have now had time to properly research both Sailsbury and Cirencester. They both have nearby routes from the lost lanes books and we enjoy those rides, so down for the next possible free weekend.
