As title, I (with help from friends) have been busy digging an area of my garden that had trees & bushes in it.

We are going to put done membrane & chips next.

Before I do so, I was planning on soaking the area in weed killer.

There are so many available......

Are the ones on ebay for instance more potent than stuff you can buy in B&Q, Dobbies etc?

Also heard that salty water is also good......

Thanks in advance.

The patch in question is the earthy bit:

Roundup.
You can buy it in garden centres.

I don't think weedkiller is the correct solution for your problem.

Roundup is rosate based. It works by being absorbed by a growing plants leaves and is transmitted to the roots. It is not meant to "poison" the soil as such.

If you never want anything to grow again you could use rock salt, this will stop anything growing.

Why ? Dig out the top soil use elsewhere then membrane then deep chips no need to use a poison that will harm the rest of your garden or you.
Herbicide residues are not nice.

Your neighbours garden is bloomin' lovely. I'd ask them for advice before a load of middle aged I.T managing mountain bikers

"Your neighbours garden is bloomin' lovely"

They are retired & have plenty time on their hands.

We work full-time & have 2 young kids (1&3)

Im looking to make ours low maintenance & child friendly.

Thanks for all so far.

Sounds like Rock salt mixed in hot water is the answer.
