To escape the banal pressure of menus we're trying to pick our first dance song.
Swinging between the maudlin "Ladies & Gentlemen we are floating in space" by Spirirtualized and "I want you bad" by The Offspring.
I've been to at least three bloody weddings where people chose Hey Ho by the Lumineers, which is a fine song I suppose.
What did you choose?
We had "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You" [sung] by James Taylor.
Felt somewhere between corny and cool which is about where we wanted to be. I'd have it again, but would follow it with JLS' Everybody In Love as a dance-floor filla.
Make it short and easy to dance to.
Mrs Zip walked up the aisle to Arrival by Abba
We signed to May you never by John Martin
First dance was Fly me to the moon by Mr Sinatra
I think we had jungle boogie 😀
We like People are Strange but it won't happen because she likes The Doors and I like Bunnymen.
Obviously Be My Baby by The Ronettes is near the top of the list.
'A view to a kill' by Duran Duran makes an outstanding first dance song.
Trust me.
Rule 1 no wedding soppy dancing. My rule
Rule 2 no wedding mosh pit. Her rule
Result no need for wedding DJ.
We had You Make my Dreams Come True by Hall & Oates. Went alright. I was shitting myself about dancing. I'll speak all evening. No dancing.
"Green Eyes" by Coldplay
Louis Jordan - is you is or is you ain't my baby
The knife - Heartbeats (live version)
[url=
We go Together (from Grease)
We had a dance routine as well
I suspect there was some cringing
Tm
Come fly with me, pretty much the Frank Sinatra version but sung by the band. Did a proper dance as we didn't want to do some kind of awkward shuffling from foot to foot.
The Gonk
we had a couple of secret lessons & did a quickstep to "let's face the music and dance" (you know, "there may be trouble ahead" ? 😀 )
Mud. Tiger Feet.
Wasn't planned as such but it was the first song the DJ played and it seemed the right thing to do.
APF
'What You Do to Me' by Teenage Fanclub.
Something personal. My wife and I used to go ballroom dancing at university (as did a fair few of our friends) so we wanted a proper dance. We decide on a waltz because I could remember more of that than anything, had some refresher lesson and did a proper dance. Our maid of honour plays violin and piano at a high level (semi professional) so she did a violin solo of this.
4 years tomorrow...
- You're welcome.
Thinking it over again, I'd prefer "Fix You" by Coldplay.
We're having You're the one for me fatty.
Legs - ZZTop
Lay lady lay - Bob Dylan.
To drunk to ..... B52s (?)
We're planning to have Ramones, 'Baby I love you' in September.
Didn't have a "do" when we got married, but a couple of friends started married life with AC/DC's "Ball Breaker".
Was ****ing awesome!
Edit: I wanted to have " A Better Man" by Thunder. Lovely lyrics.
Well I wanted, love will tear us apart, by joy division! She wasn't too keen. Can't think why?
So we agreed not to have a first dance, as it would just be the two of us shuffling about a bit all embarrassed.
But, under pressure from both mothers, we were kind of forced in to it at the night do, and in a hurry chose, stand by me by Ben E King. To which we embarrassingly shuffled about a bit, for what felt like the longest two minutes of our lives.
We had 'I Love You Baby' by Andy Williams.
Not too slushy and we got everyone up with us jumping around...ahhh, good times 🙂
Not far off a mosh pit on the dancefloor after with a rocky DJ set and live band.
****ing great night that was!
Good grief - I can't remember. Well I know it was a Beegees number, but which one..? 😕
Anyway, it was picked at the last minute and probably as the cd had been in the car for a bit.
I'll speak all evening. No dancing.
Ha Ha likewise. Superman by Robin Thicke. I couldn't wait to get it over with so I could get stuck into the wine.
Well I know it was a Beegees number, but which one..?
Tragedy?
No, the day went well thanks. 8)
Well, good enough anyway. Weddings, and all the faffy detail involved can be a bit of a ballache. Get about 80% right and everyone's going to have a good time. No-one remembers the 20% cock-ups.
Songs of love by divine comedy - the theme music of Father Ted - I do get called Dougle on occasion 🙂

We did this, worked really well. It has a nice tempo and alot of folk won't be aware of it.
Matt
We had Secret Garden by the Boss, which is a much longer song than you realise with 150 people watching you awkwardly shuffle about. This was followed immediately by Dancing on the Ceiling by Lionel Ritchie, which got everyone off their arses. Great night.
Somewhere beyond the sea by Bobby Darin. But we did get married on a tiny island in the bahamas.
Thought I did alright with the dancing till the father in law took the second dance with my wife and nailed it to Rock around the clock!
We did leave the church to zip a dee do dah by Louis Armstrong though, which is ace 😉
Shirley ...
Not first dance but played in church ➡
Joe Satriani, Always with me always with you.
Bon Jovi, Thank you for loving me.
Enya, Wild child.
Van Halen, 316.
Had a band for our wedding and the first dance was ➡
ZZ Top, Gimme all your lovin. 😉
As a surprise for the missus I had the DJ play the intro to Everything about you by Ugly kid Joe before playing Dido's Thank you.
Bryan Adams - Heaven
...we did get married 25yrs ago though, and he was popular at the time!
A bit of foreshadowing maybe and Tenacious D's **** Her Gently? 😉
We opened up with Either Way by The Twang, then as people joined us on the floor followed it with Rock With You by Michael Jackon and finished with 99 Problems by Jay-Z. The temptation to open with the latter was seriously strong but, mainly for the sake of our parents we decided not too.
We had Broken Stones by Paul Weller as we both liked the song when we started courting. Not to soppy either, then we had Forever in blue jeans as it was my song of choice to sing when bleashed up at the time..
I have since moved on to A boy named Sue by Johnny Cash.
Lamb. Gorecki.
Amazing song, but due to their love of iffy time signatures an absolute pig to shuffle round the floor to.
We went mega traditional in church with an organist playing the classics, church bells the lot. First dance was rule the world by take that on Mrs rockwell's orders. Plenty of decent tunes throughout the night though and everyone seemed to have a great time.
You're all I need to get by - Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, my idea
My wife and I went to uni with no help from others, paid for our own wedding in its entirety and bought our own house with no assistance.
Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol was the ideal choice.

Cars
She likes lions and Disney and we were off to Africa on honeymoon so it had to be Can You Feel the Love Tonight? from the Lion King.
People thought it was great fun and everyone sang along. Being effectively serenaded by our guests for our first dance was pretty special.
Love Cats. Was cool. But a bit cringey.
We kept the intro et all. Forget soppy stuff, forget cheesy choreographed stuff and doing weeks of lessons beforehand, just decided to make people laugh.
Awesome ^ wish I had thought of that (blue swede).
We went for "At Last" by Etta James
Did have one as we 'ran' off and got married in Vegas but if I was to choose one it would be this :-
[url=
eyes- First day of my life
We chose stones serenade by Trace Bundy. Great song, by great guitarist, and f the few bands/artists in the hallowed ground of our overlapping zone of musical taste venn diagram.
Mrs Pondo wanted to waltz so we learned to waltz and had Valentine Moon as covered (I presume) by Sam Brown and the Jools Holland mob.
Ladies and Gentlemen is a great idea. Friends of mine have used Patience by Guns n Roses, which seems like more the song for your first marriage counselling session, and Wake Up by the Arcade Fire which was kind of awesome (I was best man for that one and they sprung it on me, so I was up dancing with the maid of honour, ironically an ex of mine that I'd literally never spoken to between when we split up 4 years earlier and the wedding day, and trying to work out how the **** to shufflewaltz to Wake Up...)
We had 'I Love You Baby' by Andy Williams.
My wife had Frankie Valli's original version of that at our wedding. Me, I had "Can't take my eyes off you", also by Frankie Valli.
Over ten years later and she still doesn't know the name of our first dance song 😀
We didn't exactly have a first dance but the song which is synonymous with our wedding is 'Protection' from Massive Attack. My wife still just refers to it as the 'wedding song'
We had 'Here You Me' by Jimmy Eat World. I had to give the DJ a copy.
We had this. Great cover.
My cousin had Ed Sheeran - Thinking out loud, which I thought was a pretty good choice given the lyrics and the fact it was a young couple. Followed by kasabian and then gold on the ceiling by the black keys. Strong openers!
She by Charles Azevanor - sung in both English and French as Mrs B is French as where most of the guests. We thought about Comme d'habitude by Claude Francois better known as the cover version "My Way" but decided "She" meant more. Married a year ago this week.
My eldest daughter had L.O.V.E. With a routine choreographed
by her sister - a wedding classic and good fun.
Some great songs and ideas above, OP it should be something personal
Sooner you can register a marriage on gov.uk like getting a new passport the better 🙂
It suits my sense of humour that if I really had to I'd play this:
We had Queens of the Stone Age...albeit a slow one:
Pink Floyd- Comfortably numb.
still makes me smile to this day.
No first dance, but we did walk out of the ceremony to the You and Me Song by Wanadies
Me and a couple of mates have a thing about bribing the DJ to play U2s I still haven't found what I am looking for.
not found a Dj willing to do it yet but we live in hope.
We had 'Something Changed' by Pulp - a band we both love and summed up the series of serendipitous happenings that brought us together.
Followed by:
which filled the floor and covered up my awful sidey sidey shuffling. We're planning to have Ramones, 'Baby I love you' in September.
We also had later on 'The Love Cats' just as part of the disco, to which we were treated to the most astonishing almost choreographed it was that 😯 performance by one of my Uni mates and his girlfriend. Still lives in the memory. Especially the grooming section......
Which ever song you choose, get the lyrics printed on canvas or put in a frame to go alongside the wedding pictures.
We had 'Celebrate' by the Levellers
Fairytale of New York - went down a treat! It was just before christmas and meant we only had to dance for the first, slow bit because as soon as it kicked off into the jiggy, upbeat bit everyone piled onto the dance floor!
Stevie wonders "signed sealed delivered"
She walked down the aisle to the arrival of the queen of sheeba
We exited the ceremony to "Hoppípolla" by sigur ros
First dance was to "Down by the Water" by The Drums
U2 - I still haven't found what I'm looking for
and
Kaiser Chiefs - Everyday I love you less and less
mattbee - MemberWe had 'Here You Me' by Jimmy Eat World
OK, while it's a lovely song, the subject matter'd make me wonder which of you was planning to murder the other.
Quite like Iggy pop's new tune with Josh Homme..

+1
The last wedding i was at, the bride married a chap named Mr. Jones. Their song...?
This was ours. Combined with one dancing lesson. Made all the difference between awkward swaying and enlivening the crowd.
We had a ceilidh which meant there was no first dance. We were the first couple in the first set instead. Far less embarrassing than the standard shuffle round the dancefloor
She likes lions and Disney and we were off to Africa on honeymoon so it had to be Can You Feel the Love Tonight? from the Lion King.
Should have had what we had -
Africa by Toto.
Nothing to do with the lyrics, but was "the song of the holiday" when we got together.
We chose "The Everthere" by Elbow.
