I've got the job of putting together a bit of a wedding reception playlist to get people dancing. I've got some more specialist DJs for the late night slots, but I'm not paying a grand for Dave Doubledecks to come and play Come on Eileen to start with.
So what are your reception classics that get you dancing?
Personally Billie Jean will make drop everything and bust out a moonwalk.
What ya got?
Down, Down by The Quo?
RATM - Killing in the name
This always goes down a treat with the grannies 😀
Dancing Queen
YMCA
Staying Alive
First, Last, Everything
All cheesy, but all guaranteed to get drunk people onto a dance floor
still have't found what I am looking for - U2
Woman Loose weight Morcheba
or am I doing this wrong
Is this for your wedding? If not, seek close bride and groom input!
We got married in April, and I did all the music and "DJ'd" (left a playlist running for the most part). A few ideas (that, in true STW fashion, don't answer your question):
Put out a call for songs from wedding guests - we had a suggestion box on our RSVPs, and also a link to a collaborative spotify playlist that people could add songs to.
Set a playlist up in advance, but be prepared to accomodate requests/alter things according to mood on the night.
If you're DIYing, make sure you have a reliable PA on the night and have tested it in the room beforehand to make sure it sounds OK.
Have fun, it was one of the things I enjoyed most about our wedding reception, both in terms of putting it together and running it on the night.
I though this was going to be one of those 'so, I was shagging the bride's mother under the top table when .....' sort of threads
It must be love
Killers
Kings of Leon
Chelsea dagger
It's raining men
A bit of Abba
Yep it's my wedding. More of a party in a barn really, wedding was last week in the states.
Just need to fill an hour or so before the real DJs take over, although I will be laying down a DnB set in the small hours if I'm still standing. Debating digging out the vinyl is sticking with mp3s!
Robbie Williams - Angels
Kiss me I'm shit faced - Dropkick Murphys. we had it as our last song.
Lenny Kravitz - Are you gonna go my way.
pretty much anything by queen but espicially Don't stop me now and somebody to love gets everyone singing.
house of pain, jump around
Black Eyed Peas, I Gotta Feelin' seems to be standard fare to begin with.
Don't do what I witnessed at a wedding. The happy (then) pair opened the dance floor with 'Lay Lady Lay'.
Reet petite
Brown eyed girl
Sinatra, My Way towards the end of the night, gets everyone up and dancing/group hugging.
If you're DIYing, make sure you have a reliable PA on the night and have tested it in the room beforehand to make sure it sounds OK.
Very very much definately this, and not only that check it when there are loads of people in the room if possible. We checked ours in the village hall we were using when it was empty, was great, when full of the guests you couldn't hear it at all over background noise.
Thank Fv$k my b.i.l plays guitar and had been going to do a few songs, and thank Fv$k he's a performing tart who was more than happy to just play all night so people could dance.
I've got 1300w RMS PA. and a 600w backup. I think it'll be loud enough!
Go for the big cheeses. Sinitta, Tiffany, maybe a bit of [url=
