Hi all, Im in need of help to get my little website higher up Google listings. Ive been told to submit a sitemap to Google for my Godaddy built website which is about a month old.
I havent got a clue where to start even though Ive tried to decipher instructions Ive found online.
Is anyone able to help me out please?

To do well on rankings it's a bit more involved than that... It also takes time, a lot of time in both effort and seeing the results.

I'm not familiar with GoDaddy - is there a sitemap option / area / plugin?

Do you have a Google and Bing webmaster account?

Do you know what terms people will use to search for you and have you looked at alternatives?

On page - have you lots of nice words, photos named to match keywords or product names?

Off page - I assume you have a business Twitter, Facebook and YouTube account and are putting good content or offers up there?

I suggest you go and do Google garage course - so worth the effort for online marketing and basic SEO.

It takes so much more than submitting a site map to Google and unfortunately Go Daddy won’t have given you a well optimised site. Get some traction on social media and get people visiting your site and it will slowly start to get ranked.

As above. You'll not find any one individual thing that will fix your problem.

You're competing with the entire world. If it's a niche site or industry it'll be easier. More so if it's local.

Concentrate on good content.

Get external links to your website (social media...)

Outside of that, I suggest you dive in and spend some real time learning some basic Search Engine Optimisation, or employ somebody to do it for you, depending on how serious you are.

If it's not niche and it's not local, it can be a serious battle. For most online businesses, search engine rankings are by far the most valuable asset they have and it would make your eyes water the amount of money they spend getting there.
