My favourite DJ, sadly one I never got to see, died two years ago last week.
Anyone care to share a favourite mix?
His 'Music is not for everyone' NTS residency was always great and we'll worth a listen back if you have mixcloud
A classic - Smokebelch
Please don your ceremonial robes and head dress
Was lucky enough to see him by complete chance a few years ago at a banging little club in Cologne. Plated an incredible set of somehow completely non-boring minimal techno and had the whole club on the dance floor
A true legend.
As for mixes- try his Fabric CD. Really is very good 🙂
Ooooh I didn't realise he'd done a fabric mix, I'll grab that!
I was lucky enough to be on the same bill as the man himself at the Lanterns in Ashburton in the 90s
Saw him in London a few times in the 90s. He did a few nights with Red Snapper, which was extra ace 👍 proper leg-end
Just going to try and pick a favourite… might be some time…
Last time I heard him DJ was after an ACR gig, which was also the last time I heard Denise Johnson sing. Both have left a big hole in British music.
It's a slow burner
Really want to post “Roof 1”, but it appears to have vanished off the internet.
You’ll need bass bins or a subwoofer for this one…
His essential mix from 93 has a fantastic mix of Smokebelch into Spastik- genius ahead of his time
Also look up The Weatherdrive for a curation of a lot of stuff he’s done
Those old Essential mixes are on Mixcloud, got one on at the moment.
He was quite chatty on his Radio show, as well as great musical delivery he always came across as an intelligent, down to earth chap who knew the importance of what he was doing without taking things too seriously.
I was going to say that all the essential mixes are on mixcloud
The Krafty Kuts one is a particular favourite though
I was lucky enough to see Weatherall loads of times. When we were students we all used to go religiously to Sleuth at Paradise Factory every Thursday night.
The regulars were Andrew Weatherall, Justin Robertson, Darren Emerson, James Lavelle, David Holmes and the Chemical Brothers when they were still the Dust Brothers
How bloody lucky were we that that was just our standard night out?! Christ, we had some nights in that place. Still my favourite venue and Thursdays were the best nights by far. They sometimes went through until Sunday 😃

Darren Emerson probably #1 best set I've seen at The Bomb in Nottingham around '98ish.
If you’re on Mixcloud then look up ALFOS emergency broadcast with Sean Johnston
Him n Weatherall did A Love From Outer Space together live and it’s ace
Just in case theres anyone who doesn't know about the weatherdrive:
Lucky to hear him at a Primal Scream warm up gig for their appearances the summer after Screamadelica was released. Bobbie was a little bit “under the weather” so he played an extended set while they got Bobbie in a state to perform.
not strictly Weatherall, but it's a wonderful tune, given the Weatherall treatment
One of my favourite sets, B2B with Ivan Smagghe...
Only saw him once myself, guest spot at the Drum Club in the '90s, playing some quite shrill noseflute techno that didn't go down great.
Would have loved to catch him in more recent years. Huge respect for his talent and individuality.
Loved Sabresonic at London Bridge, used to get a v similar line up to the one @binners mentions up there.
Was there the night the Dust Brothers recorded Song to the Siren for Exit Planet Dust. We got stopped by the police at the elephant & castle on the way home. Think they had a bit of fun with us before sending us on our starry eyed way.
Happy days!
He was quality , and appeared to have no ego . His remixes made some non descript songs sound amazing and maybe soemtimes over the top . Real iconic looking fella as well. Come home
Sleuth looked amazing, I remember the posters in Manchester but was still too much of an indie kid in those days. Heavenly have just released 2 weatherall compilations which are worth checking out. He died right before lock down and I don’t think we’ve had a chance to mourn him yet!
Lucky enough to have seen him DJ twice, not that I remember much of either time. I'm taking that as a good thing. Top bloke as well from what I gather.
I've been lucky enough to see him DJ loads over the years from a Manchester Megadog in the mid 90's, at numerous techno clubs in the Midland to the last time in 2018 at my local pub playing slow dubby house, a DJ I'd always try and see if he was playing local.
I may have missed seeing Daft Punk at the Que club for their Alive 97 tour to go see Weatherall play pounding techno at House of God.
