Looking for some live vids on youtube I came across this, brilliant documentary about the brilliant Minutemen. Best known for:

One of the proper indie bands (ie no major label - they were the second signing to Black Flag's SST label - not a pointy shoe in sight) from the US.

Double Nickels on the Dime is one of my favourite albums, this is music genius imo, a massive influence on a lot of bands that went on to define alternative rock in the late 80s and early 90s. These guys thought about what they were doing, cared about stuff and it didn't stop with the music.

I'll second that!!! The Minutemen were/are one of my all time favourite bands. The fact that they introduced so many different influences within their music(jazz, funk, country etc) and were not afraid to veer from the harder/faster ethos of the hardcore scene.

Good Idea!

It was a delight the day I found If'n on iTunes as I own several fIREHOSE / Minutemen records and no record player these days 🙂

Just watched it. Brilliant. Really brought back loads of memories. Made me realise how easy kids have it now with internet. I would literally spend months tracking down rare and obscure records. And then save like mad to get them. It was very touching how Mike Watt and D Boon were such good mates. Apparently, Mike Watt was going to quit after D Boon died and it was only Kira(Black Flag bassist and future wife) that convinced him to carry on.
