Anyone else get these emails?

The event company looks legit, but there's no such thing as a free dinner, as they say. What's the catch?

Here are some details:

Participation is free.

This exclusive round table will be held in a relaxed private dining room, with interesting guests from prestigious companies - providing you with ample opportunity for peer to peer networking.

Confirmed attendees at present:
Department for Education – Chief Digital Officer
Government Digital Service – Deputy Director of Software Engineering
Government Digital Service – Deputy Director, Technical Operations
Lloyds Banking Group – Head of Business Management, Group Digital
Maersk – Platform Product Owner

DEFRA – Chief Architect for EU Exit Programme
Virgin Media – Head of Digital Delivery, Planning & Priority Programmes

There will be an open discussion on the following topics:

• How to grow your business and reshape your industry
• How to compete and win against your current competitors and non-traditional threats
• Culture: How to continually improve and deliver customer success

Selling what though?

If you don't know what they're selling then you're probably not the customer, you're the product

Pivotal – 24 october 2019 London

They're not selling me that, that's what I've been invited to. For nowt, it seems.

He can regale them with the tale of that time he very nearly acquired two beagles….

What with that and my elephant impression, I'll smash it.

I used to get them whe I worked in TV. The implication was it was just a quango with a remit to help small businesses in whatever secitor grow and a budget to spend. Either that or it was just a way of holding a focus group that people would actually turn upto. Paying £40 a head for dinner is probably cheaper than offering to pay expenses!

Never went.

They are "selling" the services of pivotal.io

Some of those attendees will be from their customers, and they'll use the event to talk about what they've done with them. The idea is for you to think "hmm, that may help us" and then have follow up conversations.

We run similar events with partners - I'm often asked to invite people I know from my customers.

Yep it's legit!

Guessing you have had this from GDS/Inverin/Marcus Evans/Worldtrade or similar.

They need to prepopulate the delegate attendance in order for it to be an attractive proposition to sponsors and partners (which is where the real money is for an event organiser). You're the product and the content. Same as a forum.

I used to sell the sponsorship for these kind of things as a young man so know how it all works!

Any questions just shout 🙂
