I got my 4TB NAS that was mentioned in a PSA on here.

Anyone else got one?

I having lots of issues, can't Map Network Drive, when I click on the icon it shows as empty. Despite having transferring files via the MyCloud web page. The help is terrible and is clear as mud.

Anyone else had similar problems?

First thing to do is check the firmware is up to date then do a factory reset. No idea why they need a factory reset from new but it does seem to help.

As above check the firmware is up to date.

some useful links here regarding setting up the nas.

A work colleague bought the 2tb drive and he had no issues setting it up last night.

Thanks gents.

The firmware updated on initial set up and I access it with the web interface to copy files across but it doesn't show in the network.

It seems to be a W10 problem, as my W7 laptop sees it perfectly.

Very annoying!

Do you have your network settings set to "public network" in Win 10 ?

If so, set them to private network.

Network is on "private".

I have activated "SMB1" in Windows, which has solved the problem, apparently this is a legacy protocol and is not as secure as more up to date alternatives.

Will I get hacked to death now?

Interesting. I'm waiting for mine too and that protocol I had to activate on windows 10 to allow Sonos to read music on my PC.

Have you done the factory reset? You'll need to re-copy the files over after though.

Also you might be able to manually map it as a network drive. That's what I had to do on.my wife's laptop. Been fine and visible since.

Remember the EternalBlue 'virus' that took out half of the world including swathes of the NHS last year?  That was an SMBv1 exploit.

If I bought a device which required SMBv1 in 2018, I'd be sending it back as not fit for purpose.

Googling would suggest that SMBv3 should be the default with the latest firmware.  Are you absolutely sure that's what you've got?  Check on WD's website for updates manually.

Can you get to the file system on the device, get a shell prompt?

Oh, and,

Windows 7 working would suggest that you've disabled Windows Update.  Don't do that.

I’ve just checked my firmware on the mycloud dashboard.

The firmware is v04.05.00-320. Check that it is the same.

I've never had to activate smb1 so I would change that back as Cougar says it can be exploited.

I'm using Windows 10 on a laptop and it worked fine right from switching it on once I’d created a mycloud account on the wd website.

I have had problems develop with mine. My Panasonic smart tv can find it but won't show any of the files. All visible and accessible from the Mac. I think I'll buy a synology next time.

Got mine at last, the software is cumbersome and seems not to play too well with W10 and Chrome. As above I think I backed the wrong horse on this one.

I’m not that great with things like this. But mine seems fine. All the devices in my household can access it and using the WD iPhone app I can access it and stream remotely. I’m a little concerned about security as it seems too easy.
