No Claudio?

Sadly yes. Because Tracey was brilliant in the first race.
Why they have dropped her for the second race is crackers. Claudio is at best a washed up old timer with no real results.

Really enjoying the men's DH. It's won/lost in the short wooded section. Commentary good too.

I was going to say Hatton has that “look slow, go fast” thing going on… but then…

Yep that was a good return for DH. Danny needs to spend more time pedalling in training though 🙂

Great to watch and it's awesome to see Brosnan win.

It looks to me that the race was won and lost in a section just prior to the woods that wasn't really covered by the split times. It made it pretty confusing to watch.

I thought TracyH did a great job in the commentary box, not always easy with things changing so fast and Warner in full swing with you 🙂

Great race. Lots to get excited about for the rest of the season.

Claudio is at best a washed up old timer with no real results.

Does that really matter? Him and Warner work well as a commentary team. Enjoyed the RB coverage.

Great race , Chuffed for Reece and Brosnan. Gutted for Brook he could have won that withoout his double washout. I think Reece was as happy for troy as Troy was for him at the world champs.

Just watched the replay, one of the best men's races I remember seeing!. I was cheering on duprela and it looked like the winning run, he was on the edge throughout, that boosted double before the wall ride was nuts, little mistake in the woods

Brosnan, youd have bet your house on him losing after the motorway section, but then the technical sections, wow! Really enjoyed that race

I’ve been riding there all summer for 10 years and just about got my front wheel onto the wall ride from that hump, he landed 1/4 way around! Nuts.

Obviously pretty much everyone in my fantasty team crashed. Sorry to all those riders.

Personally I find Tracey's voice a tad whiney so prefer the familiar voice of Claudio regardless of his results, plus if everyone applauds red bull for their equality they'll be looking for a female version of Rob next and half his wages, heaven forbid.
Shouldn't the OP have put this in the bike forum.

Indeed that was a double take moment, also Pierron's speed into the woods raised a cheer.

There was a blink and you'll miss it moment on Daprela's run only just caught by drone, at the end of the stumpy section where it turns to the high speed jumps - most riders pick their way through the stumps but Daprela rode the whole lot like a high speed burm and was 3 seconds into the green on that corner alone.

What a great race. I thought Tracey was a great addition to the commentary team for the ladies race, knew her stuff and was able to handle Rob despite her lack of experience so far

Other than that she did well

Tracey Hannah doesn't come across as the sharpest tool in the box and she isn't 'quick' enough with a quip to cover it up like Warner. But she is new to the media bullshit, so she probably needs a bit of time. Elliot Jackson's contributions on the tech side of the track are really good, just wish he'd reign the giggling in by a bit - not completely, just a bit.

Shouldn't they be looking at retired riders who have a bit about them conversationally? Some of the older Aussies might be pretty good (Bryn Atkinson maybe). Andrew Neethling perhaps?

I wouldn't be as nasty about him as Brant, but there's a lot of room for improvement in their double act IMO.

Annoying that they seemed to forget Daprela had gained 3s at the top, then stalled in the woods

So when Troy was only 1.5s behind him before the woods it was obvious he could win. But they were talking like he had time to make up.

Rob won't be going anywhere so I'm interested to see if Eliot Jackson can do a better job of co-commentating at Les Gets next month, and pick up on more stuff like that

Also they need to provide a bit more background on the lesser known riders and their teams IMO.

I'm quite clued up but I still don't know about some of the smaller teams and they could fill some of the repetitive earlier runs with that kind of info

Anyway, great racing and I'm stoked to sneak onto the podium in the fantasy DH League.

I think that showed how damn steep it was on the Shimano corner, something that TV coverage can't convey. I'm just glad I watched "The Road Back" after I saw his crash(es), that's for sure.

Check this video of Cathro climbing up the section where Brook and Valli crashed. Much steeper than it looks from the overhead camera on the live feed.

There's no real berm, just a small groove with a little support. Go outside of that and it's easy to see how your front wheel would fly away. And yes, the bit where Brook tried to quickly jump back on is still a hell of a slope.

tbf, Claudio does a very good job commentating in a second language. But Tracey's actual relevant racer input was superb, and clearly made the commentary box a lot less like a lads party.

Tracey spotted crashes way before Rob, and was so on the ball.
And yeah - the stall in the woods meant that the timing sums were obvious to most people except, well, anyhow.

Rob's come on a lot as a commentator. Him and Pagey on Danny's run clearly was a drunken work of art. I was really blown away with Tracey's incredibly educated and FAST commentary - I really thought she was a right mardy character as a racer, so was happy to be wrong about that!

Has there been any news on Minaar's run - I think he was having shoe/pedal issues - Rob and Claudio didn't seem to notice that his foot was flapping around a lot.

Can someone move this to the bike forum to break up the endless boredom of gravel and road bikes? For the last two days I thought all the MTBers had quit STW…

Great racing, that woods section was so tricky. Nice to see Brosnan win again after so many years of consistently almost doing it!

I didn’t hear a single thing about wheel sizes during the race - does that mean that everyone is now on 29/27.5 mullets bar a few on full 29? The only time the bikes were mentioned was the Commencals and the prototype virtual high pivot.

Very exciting race, nice to see Troy take a win at last!

My Fantasy League however was a disaster! I had Payet who obviously had his issues and Nina Hoffman who didn't start. Anyone know what happened there?

I hung off every word last week, followed the youtube build up stuff from the teams and Cathro, sat on the edge of my seat for the race (which I watched sunday morning after a self imposed media blackout).

I was absolutely hooked.

2 observations.

I could tell you who won both races, Vali crashed while on a winning run, and I think Pierron did quite well. Couldn't tell you with certainty the rest of the podiums though.

Crankworx is getting all the hype this week, so far there has been a dual slalom and a whipoff. A lot of the same riders as WC last week. And I really couldn't care less. I've tried to watch it. And I'm just bored.

Its that new prototype 6bar Supreme - deathtrap I tells ya.

Are we seeing higher speeds and therefore more injuries? Are we going to legislate madatory 26 inch wheels to slow the riders down?

Dangerous section of track apparently. Modified with a chicane after Diprela's crash but Pierron still nailed himself somehow.

Haven't seen any footage from the race yet.

Its looking like it could be another interesting race, conditions wise. There has been some thunderstorms go through and lots of the track is brand new. It certainly sounds like it'll chop up again and we'll end up with another race with riders struggling to stay upright with the wheels turning.

Have you watched any of the track walk videos? There's a rare level of enthusiasm and excitement for this one.

I think the track looks mint. The only issue is that it's fresh and soft and it's going to rain loads. It's going to get totally sliced up immediately.

In the dry it would be wild but it could go either way in the rain. I hope we get a good race and not another gag reel.

Agreed. I really enjoyed it. The interviewee, Chris kilmurray, was the most well informed guy I think ive ever heard in an MTB interview. He really knows his onions. They should interview him every week. Chris the interviewer did a good job too

I dunno I think it's maybe just because it's so fresh it looks a bit unbuilt. The run in to that gap is just a horribly muddy wide featureless slope.

https://www.pinkbike.com/news/video-raw-carnage-and-a-few-brilliant-moments-les-gets-world-cup-dh-2021.html

I guess it will all get rutted and lines will become more obvious but at the moment it kinda looks like a freshly created enduro stage not a WC DH track. I like rocks also 🙂

That's exactly what it is. It's on the Mont Chery side of Les Gets and the track they put in isn't actually a trail that can be ridden. It's only for this race and it's classic drag some tape down a hill and see what happens

Most of the riders are saying its EXACTLY the type of track they've been asking for as there is no obvious line on most of the track, time can be made up and lost on almost every corner and its changing every run. I think they were cutting some of the biggest roots away on the run into the gap out of the woods last night after practice, should be a good race on Saturday and the track should suit the British riders

Certainly looks entertaining from the videos. !

Some of the casing off the gap were a bit heavy ! As well as riders backing out of it, which i've rarely/never seen before... So was kinda cool to watch.

It is the type of track the majority of riders have been asking for.

The issue will come if it rains because some bits will become unrideable. Even more so than Leogang last year. But you can't have 'natural, rooty, loamy' and expect it to stand up in the rain. I just hope it stays dry because there is going to be some epic riding and line choice if it does.

I also hope no one is seriously injured as the step down at the top and the river gap will claim a few and there is a point if no return with both. It is a risk inherent in the sport, so no problems there, but just hope any crashes are classifiable as 'funny' rather than 'nasty'.

I watched the Wyn Masters course-walk vid and I think claiming that all the riders have been crying out for/are thrilled by this track is quite the exaggeration. Some of them seemed excited by it, some didn't. I can defo see that it should suit British riders.

I can see I'm in a minority here but it just looks amateurish to me and like the old days of taping off bits of a ski slope and seeing what happens. I can appreciate it might make for good drama/bloopers reel...

I've also never seen multiple people case a jump like on those vids. Difficult is fine but it just seems badly designed.

🤷‍♂️

Look at the 'bed' of roots that is coming through.

If it rains on race day it could become a lottery.

But it looks flipping incredible - best riders on the planet having to give it full body English to stay upright....
