I am after a new pair of waterproof trousers. I want to use them all year around so would prefer over trousers so that I can wear them over lined walking trousers in winter and over thin walking trousers in summer if it's not quite warm enough for shorts. Ideally looking for around £100. What can people recommend.
I have a pair of Keela Munro salopettes for full on winter conditions, a pair of Berghaus Deluge overtrousers and a pair of Montane Atomic overtrousers.
The Montane ones are the ones I use most for walking all year round. They are nice and lightweight, pack up small and have gave me no isssues over the past maybe 8-9 years I think. They also have articulated knees so I can use them on the bike as well. They were a replacement for the Berghaus ones which although perfectably usable, they are quite a bit heavier and bulkier. The Kella ones only get used a couple times a year.
No idea what new stuff is out there but it would need to be pretty special to beat the Montane Atomics.
I bought a longer coat and solved most of the need for waterproof trousers.
I use Berghaus deluge pant as well, but mainly in very wet conditions. I can see how they would be bulkier than pertex trousers, but I wouldnt say theyre particularly bulky. Generally even if its raining I prefer long cotton shorts that dry quickly and gaiters to keep the worst off the boot tops though.
