Morning all,
Here’s your middle class unnecessary electronic device purchase pondering for the day - does anyone use or have any experience of using water flosser? Amazon has the usual bizarro of strange no name devices with very suspicious 5* reviews and then there is others that look reputable with horror reviews.
Don’t want to spend a fortune as it’s a present for the other half’s birthday (I know, I know - I’ll get her some sweeties as well to increase the hilarity)
Looking at this:
Panasonic EW-DJ10 Compact Dental Oral Irrigator with 2 Water Jet Modes https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002NKLWES/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1I.OEb6JWTNZV
Or this brand seems to be the main movers but I’ve never heard of them and they’re very £££
Waterpik WP-560UK Cordless Advanced Water Flosser - White Edition (UK 2-Pin Bathroom Plug) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071HZV1H7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zM.OEb2WSFT12
Thoughts?
TL:DNR - Water flosser yay or nay??
Plus - amazon 5* review are all just lies, yes? They need to sort that out, it’s a mess. Completely untrustworthy
Asked the dentist about this at my last visit as my teeth are closed up so find it hard to clean between the teeth with floss or those small pipe cleaner things so can get alot of tater build up between teeth. He said they are good and basically what they use but a more professional version. I plan to give one a go and see how I get on.
I got one after a previous thread on here. It's not bad actually.
Also opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for settling arguments with the children and keeping the dogs in line.
I've got a Panasonic one. They are brilliant. Removes everything from the teeth. Mine is now 30quid on Amazon.i had a cheaper one and it didn't last.i use it once a day before brushing.
Great - thanks! Also have the same issue re closed up teeth and floss, and if it doesn’t work then the toddler and cat will be feeling its cold, throbbing jets 😅😳
I got a fancy Waterpik one as a requested present - I couldn't think of anything else, so meh, good reviews on Amazon, let's get one. Classic middle-class capitalist behaviour.
Not worth it imo. I can see the benefit for jet washing braces/retainers/dentures but for a regular set of nashers I see better results from a prod and standard floss. I use an excellent Philips electric toothbrush for the normal stuff which I do recommend.
Wouldn't bother but will probably come in useful in 40 years for my false ones!
This....
Not worth it imo.
Because of this....

The point is that if you have closed teeth with little or no gap then you can't use floss or the pipe cleaner things and toothbrushes can't get in-between the teeth...so the tool for the job in these cases is a water jet thing.
Either that or just put it down to a waste of time middle class capitalist gimmick then battle with receding gums and gum disease leading to early tooth loss. Time and technology has moved on from the days of rubbing teeth with plant stems.

This is me on my occluded bottom teeth, which was behind the purchase, but still a bit meh, unfortunately.
They are also great for getting nasties away from under your gums and blast plaque away. Much better and less painful than floss and your gums your do not bleed.my dentist was impressed at my last check up.said I didn't need another for 9 months.
I bought one of the no name Amazon ones. It works fine, I just found I didn't really like it. Went back to regular floss after trying to get used to it for 6 months. Dentist didn't do any scraping when I went in during the use of it, so seems like functionally it does the job. Best not to accidentally press the button with it pointed at your face though!
Cheapy Panasonic bought - fingers crossed it meets with approval...
So. Evidence based dental science view is this.
They work to a point and if you use one, your oral hygiene / health will improve.
They don’t clean as well between the teeth as floss or interdental brushes if those are used correctly once a day but they are better than doing no cleaning between your teeth. ( worth mentioning that fancy electric toothbrushes do not clean between the teeth at all (fact))
No ones teeth are too close together to floss (fact) but crowded teeth are harder to get between. With good technique and a “slippy” floss it can be done. Flossing is a motor skill that takes practice.

I have an inexpensive Fairywill- it definitely does some good, removes some food debris and gives a general cleaner feeling and also has stopped some mild gum issues I had. I come into the "better than nothing" as I've never had the patience to use floss or one of those brushes (and some of my teeth are very tight and tricky to use either on)
Glad I got it really
