Mrs S likes to buy films through iTunes and download them to iPad. When at home we would like to watch them on the TV. Apple TV looks ideal but it is super expensive. I've used Chromecast before and was impressed with it. If I buy a Chromecast can I easily and reliably cast movies from the iPad to my TV?
I don't think apple store stuff plays nicely with chromecast, but I've never tried it.
They will sell you an HDMI cable adapter, which I have used from iphone to hotel TV etc with some success. I think it's a better resolution than chromecast too.
You won't be able to cast from Apple (AirPlay) to a Chromcast. You'd need an Apple TV.
I presume you can connect via HDMI with one of these (or a non-Apple version if they exist). https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009WHV3BM/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
I'd google around and double check it plays nicely with iTunes movies though.
The Apple TV is a nice bit of kit. If you have a 4K TV it's worth the initial outlay for the ATV for the access to reasonably priced 4K-HDR movies (even more so if you set up an a US iTunes account).
would one of the older Apple TV's not suit? maybe the one before they went 4K, is that the apple TV 3?
I have a chromecast and it hates anything apple really, apps from 3rd parties work well such as youtube, redbull etc
