As above, I quite fancy something in black metal. Like this lovely Seiko but less diver-y and less spend-y:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seiko-SKA577P1-Kinetic-Black-Dial-PVD-Stainless-Mens-Watch-/111912242618?hash=item1a0e7d4dba:g:eJkAAOSwG-1WuJpX

Swatch used to do a few but I can't see them on ebay (in my price range!)

Any suggestions?

Steinhart Ocean Black would be my suggestion (disclaimer, I have a Steinhart Ocean GMT which I love):

My SINN UX, they also do it with an all black ( PVD) BODY as opposed to just the crown.

Interested in why people rate Seiko so much?

I bought into a lot of the threads on here on Seiko quality, but after 2.5 years all the hands are out of line on my Seiko, and they want £91+postage to repair a watch that cost £125 and I can now buy for £95.

Any other brands people would recommend?

Skagen? I've got one of their watches in black metal and it was about £100 I think.

Can't remember what model mine is but it's something like this:

I've got a black 'genuine fake' Rolex I bought in Saigon for $10.

Loses time at an incredible rate and leaves a black mark on your wrist but looks smart from a distance.

Yours for $10

Seiko produce probably millions of watches, from very cheap to pretty damned pricey, there's always going to be a few that have problems; I've seen a Rolls Royce being loaded onto a trailer on the M4 hard shoulder, nothing's perfect.
I've got two Seikos, a SPORK, and a Yokobies '5' mod; neither has caused any issues, there's around £300 between them, but frankly that's irrelevant, statistically there will be some that fail in some way, but by and large Seiko are very reliable.

I've got a black animal surfmaster
I like it

[img] [/img]
It's flash enough for me but reminds me of my old animal watch from days of yore and the many Velcro straps it outlasted, including a couple of mbuk ones !

Tho day to day I just wear my cheap Casio

That is the exact same experience I have had with the Seiko chronograph my Dad got me.

+1 for the Skagen,
I've got the one pictured above and love it. Classic and understated. I've never been one for all of the dials and colours. Plus mine's steel - just like my bikes 🙂
