Given the length of the n+1 thread must be some knowledgable folks here?
I've got an automatic Tag Aquaracer/Calibre 5 that was a present.
It never actually worked properly as far as I can tell but its years past any hope of warranty.
Backstory: My mum wanted to buy me a watch to remember her by and I ended up getting this "duty free" passing through Heathrow. I didn't really want a "expensive" watch but ... ?? so I didn't really wear it, partly I'd just take it off to go riding then forget so it never really did the "automatic" as I didn't wear it often enough.
When I did wear it I'd have to wind ... and it would still stop.
Anyway ... interweb reckons this is not uncommon but I want to get it working unless it cowts a fortune.
Q1... what sort of cost would it be?
Q2... should I take to a Jewellers or a local specialist or a "post it" specialist?
I wouldn't take it to a jewellers, they'll send it on to a watchmaker. I've used Watch Doctor before - they're relatively local to me so I dropped it in. Looking at their price list you're looking at £150 for a standard service - if something's broken it may be more.
If you're anywhere near Birmingham there are plenty of places in the Jewellery Quarter who either mend watches or have a local that they send them to.
I have a 70 yr old Rolex that stopped working, I took it in, they changed the mainspring, gave it a full service and it didn't cost very much.
And if you've got any jewellery that needs mending/cleaning/adjusting take that along too, as well as any old gold, silver and gemstones you don't want, which will probably pay for the repair.
Thanks for the Watch Doctors tip off - Tring isn't that far from me...in fact I could combine it with a decent ride through the Chilterns as well!

OK, sounds like better than randomly selecting someone ...
In normal times dropping it off would be good 😉 not that I'm in a hurry

Yeah I filled out a query ... I'll see what they quote but seems doable.
I used Duncan at Genesis Watchmaking for a tag service a little while back. Top man and great service. Pricing / contact details are all on the website.
Duncan at Genesis without doubt.

The basic service is double Watch Doctor (£290) ... so that's not inspiring me.
