Scumbag.
Although if there was one bothy I wouldn't leave expensive gear in it would be Bob Scotts...
I suspect that a few bothy rats might be having a word with him ...
I popped into Bob Scotts Bothy last week after doing the inner loop of the CL, was surprised to see sleeping bags and other gear left in there obviously to save their space for another night which I think is quite tight. Obviously running the risk of people helping themselves as its quite a popular track. Was the same at the Bothy at the top end of Loch Muick gear left inside.
There's been kit left in bothies for as long as I can remember. I've done it myself. It has never seemed to be at risk.
Tbh round Bob Scott's / Derry lodge area has had quite a problem with thefts - at least being publicised this year .
We had sleeping bags lifted off bikes locked up at Derry lodge , a complete backpack/tent etc taken having been stashed in bin bags off track on way up Ben macdui
I've left gear in bothies before - hill day without the stove and sleeping bag. I've left bikes at them too. Never concerned me before.
That said, Bob Scott's and others are so busy now I don't think I would there.
Sad incidents.
It reminds me of the time we left our backpacks at a col before sumitting Mont Cinto on the GR20. I took my wallet etc with me. There was quite a few hikers about doing the GR20 but everything was still there when we returned down. Thinking of it would be hard to steal and carry an additional backpack at that location and you’d stand out with two packs!!!!
Probably the value of that pack and contents must be £750 plus.
