Noticed a stream of the wee bastards going in through a brick vent that's below the bedroom floor.

Tell me I don't have to start lifting carpets and floorboards? Worth spraying the entrance, or water traps?.

Nuke your house from orbit...

...although with wasps I still wouldn't be sure.

Just came to check that someone had posted this. I'll pop back later and check for the napalm in the morning gifs.

They probably won’t bother you if the access they are using is away from any social areas of the garden. If you want shot of them spray some ant powder around the access point. They will carry it into the nest, job done.

It's in the front drive, right next to where the good lady parks her car, at her driver door, and there is a bloody lot of them. I'll give the ant powder a go!.

We had a wasp nest in our attic a few weeks ago and the marmite-pooing, stripey buggers kept flying in to my kids' bedrooms. I did a search and Rentokil Wasp Killer Powder got lots of recommendations. I sprinkled it around all the entrances I could see the wasps using and within 2 days all was well.

I thought the standard suggestion was baseball bat, motorcycle helmet and video the result?

Just leave them.

I say this on every wasp thread. How many times have you actually been stung? It hurts for sure but the amount of flapping people do over a cool wee beastie is way out if proportion.

I think it's often the 'not knowing exactly where they are nesting'. And a fear that at some unsuspected moment a whole nest full of angry wasps will emerge into a room with you/the wife/the kids to that drives the urge to 'do something about them'. In reality it's rarely a problem. By all means go for it with powder (safest to spray at night when they are largely sleeping in the nest) but try not to worry about them. (Daft comment.. I know if fret too)

Massive byke found in the loft today. Wee bastards appear to have been gnawing various plastic boxes too (do they do that? If not, we’ve got mice up there too…)

Plastic - mice. Or rats. or squirrels.

If the wasp nest is big enough I suppose they might be inclined to gnaw on any wood they find up there, so I'd be inclined to put an end to their shenanigans.

Plus they may start popping through the light fittings downstairs.

Might have to put some mousetraps up there then. What a pain!

I’ll sort the exterminator on Mon for the wasps.

There was a thread on wasptrackworld.com last week about genocidal mountain bikers. If you're looking for it it's just after the one about craft beer traps and just above (yet another) one about all bees being attention seeking tossers.

Do wasps knaw on wood? Thought it was only crappy stuff they knaw on for pulp?

its not the stinging, it is the way they ****ing hover around your face being irritating as shit that makes me want to murder them all. No need for it. Piss off you angry stripey bastards!

Wasps do minimal damage to houses and never return to the same nest so personally I don’t worry about them. Had a Hornets nest just near the front door a couple of years ago and it was fascinating watching them coming and going. Never once in any danger of getting stung.

My folks had a wasp nest in the loft. They are halfway through a joist

I read this as TJ's folks being chilled about the nest because they smoke weed. 🙂

Still got a few stragglers coming and going from a hole in my brickwork. They've been great for cleaning up the pests in my garden.

just be extra cautious at the moment - they're slowing down for winter (in other words, dying off) which makes them extra aggressive and the stings can also be particularly potent.

I've uncovered two large sleepy wasps in the garage purely by chance.

I hate to think how many must be on there that I haven't found.

Oh, lots.

Do they really abandon nests? It looks like a lot of work to write off…

Uncovered this in the loft on Friday, nearly fell through the roof as I peeled back the insulation

Assuming this is a wasp nest although I thought they were normally a bit more papery.

If you do kill the wasps, leave the nest. They wont come back to an abandoned one (according to our wasp man).

Do wasps knaw on wood?

They pull at the fibres on the surface.

I'm afraid i don't believe they chewed halfway through a joist
