Hello forum dwellers, after reading the article in the latest mag about Vancouver island it has sparked my interest to take a trip to Washington State and visit the island too.
Anyone got any suggested itineraries, places to stay, where is best to fly to etc etc? Thinking a few days at a number of places in and around Washington state, would quite like to visit Seattle, if only to see the land of the Kranes (Frasier?)
Would flying into Seattle work? I am based in West Yorkshire, so would prefer a northern airport.
Are there any issues with visiting Canada from the US, ie visa etc?
Thanks all.
You'll need an e-visa for Canada, but it's seamlessly simple.
Seattle is a great airport and a good hub for flights with Alaskan, who I find to be excellent.
The Boeing factory tour at Everett is fascinating. Oh, and lunch at Ivar's overlooking Mukilteo Sound afterwards!
Brill, thanks for that.
For a fun way from Washington to Vancouver Island take the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria, the Washington peninsula is pretty remote, Forks where the Twilight books were set is a typical town with not much going on.
Olympia was an interesting town. Tacoma was smelly, paper mills.
I used the ferry from Seattle to Van, then took a sea-plane from Van over to Van Island, the views were great. You could also take a sea-plane from Seattle all the way to Vancouver, I like sea-planes, can you tell?
Very varied state (lived in eastern Washington for two years): mountain ranges, rainforests, deserts and rolling farmland. Plenty of stuff around Seattle to take up a whole holiday, but there's other stuff to do if you want to get a bit off the beaten track.
Olympic national park is jaw-dropping.
Leavenworth is a bizarre Bavarian-style town in the cascades. Great for Octoberfest and snow sports.
Palouse Falls is remote but worth a look if you're heading to the more desert like sections (apparently it's a geology nerd's dream).
Walla Walla is also remote, essentially a town of wine tasting shops.
Spokane is about as far East as you can go in WA. There's a lot of Native American history in the area, but a looooong way to go.
Give us some idea of what you like to do on holidays!!
City or countryside?
Chill out or active???
We aren't mind-readers!! 🙂
I live an Vancouver and have done plenty of road-riding, mountain biking and hiking in WA...
Mt St Helens?
Mt Baker?
Winthrop?
Tons of stuff to do but I couldn't help you with cozy, chic restaurants in Seattle...

Love that area, the beaches are stunning.
Also flew over to Victoria for a day and whale watching when in Vancouver on a different trip
Thompson Airlines direct from Manchester
APF
Mt St Helens and Boeing my most memorable bits from Washington. Oh and a Seahawks game when they were proper bad.
Trails around Bellingham are ace (Transition bikes stomping ground).
Few other great smaller spots all over, get on the local facebook groups and there are always local riders keen to show visitors around, only ever had good days out like that.
IF you're up for a road trip over there (and let's face it, everywhere is a road trip by UK standards/distances!), then Bend, Oregon is well worth a visit if you can.
