I know, a bit boring but need to look at a new washing machine. Have had Hotpoint for the last 2 machines (current washer drier but broken drier!) and both been good but was hoping for suggestions of any machine/brand worth looking at?

Have had the current one for about 10years or so I think, and leaning towards Hotpoint again, but anyone else got any suggestions for a cheap-ish brand or machine that is any good?

TIA

We've got a Beko machine, wasn't expensive (£250ish?), is now about four years old and still doing fine.

LG here - wore out old one's main bearing twice in nearly 12 years, I replaced as it was cheap for bearing but massive labour.

Another LG here is now 5 years old and still as good as day 1.

Same here. Got one with a massive drum size, gets used for around 10 loads per week and is now about 5 years old, totally faultless.

AO.com is so good, cheap and convenient I cannot see a scenario where I would pay for a repair if/when it finally gives up on me.

Did you need a washer/drier or just a washing machine? I bought a Siemens washer/drier a few months ago and am very happy with it, wasn't particularly cheap though (although still half the price of a Miele...). Bought it mostly on the strength of Which? and some other reviews, the John Lewis own-brand ones also got good reviews

We have a Beko.  The guy we know that repairs that sort of thing said they're very good.

Surely if the brushes went you wouldn't just bin it and get a new one would you? We have had our Beko for over 5 years now and it gets hammered daily (two pre-schoolers/young girls as they are now) and it has been very good apart from a snapped handle (repaired by me) and brushes went (replaced by me). It is also huge so gets great big loads in it.

We've got the cheapest Beko washer drier. At the time we bought it because it was shallow enough to fit through the cupboard door sideways in our old flat, not many would.

When we did our kitchen we were going to replace it because it whines a bit, 2 years later it still whines a bit busy hasn't got any worse. It's 5 years old now.

Unfortunately it's another case of throw away society but at £300 I don't see the point in buying more expensive kit that might last a bit longer. When its time comes it'll probably get replaced with the same rather than even trying to repair.

Oooo love a white goods thread. Recently replaced a borked Beko with a Siemens. John Lewis had an awesome deal on with extra warranty and cash back.

If I could easily repair it using a YouTube tutorial then I would, I wouldn't pay to get someone out though. £50 for them to turn up (late), a day of work for them to only go away as they didn't have the parts etc etc. Last time I did that with my dishwasher it was two weeks of hassle to get a machine repaired, total cost only £50 less than buying a new one. Lesson learnt and not to be repeated.

we have a direct drive which I think is a bosch and it's been completely rock solid since we bought it, I think in 2009 ?! The only reason I think we have been lucky with it because if you run it at max speed (1600rpm) it can shred holes in the clothes so we run it at 1200 therefore not stressing the bearings as hard.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Only looking washer now as we have a separate drier in the conservatory. May try and keep this one going to post-Christmas unless it dies before then.

Will have a look at your suggestions though thanks!
