Sorry to ask... We have a top loading small washing machine in the bathroom. It seems to have broken.

The clothes come out still dirty and very wet.It spins and seems to be draining water , but it sounds like it is making a lot of effort to spin and doesn't really go into 'spin like crazy' mode.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance and apologies again for the dull topic

Motor brushes possibly.

Done them on a front loader a few times, not sure how accessible they would be on a top loader. Flip it on the side and have a look.

when my old front loading one started doing similar to that it turned out to be the heating element had gone - because it couldn't get the water up to desired temp it'd just fanny about in the pre-wash for a while and give up. I Think it cost twenty quid for a new one, and was relatively easy (I only cocked it up once, and I'm a fool) to fit. O'course, the drum bearings packed in a few weeks later, which you can't replace on cheapy machines, so i had to buy entirely new.

Hope that's some use.

#edit - if it may be the heater element, try a wash on cold setting as it should go through a full wash if it doesn't have to heat.
