just been round to look at my lads washer, he says its leaking all over the floor and making a bit of a racket.
had the top off, cant see any problems, leaky pipes etc.
tilted it to have a look at the base, and the water seems to be dripping all over the motor and wiring. nothing above that seems wet.
this is the view from directly underneath it, water all over the galvanised motor and the wiring section that you can see.....

i assume the drum section is all sealed? so would the water have to be coming from a hose or seal or somethings?
its an indesit if that makes any difference? we're guessing its knackered, but if theres an easy fix somewhere then they may get a bit more life from it.
thanks
Have a look on the back of the drum for the level sensor, a small plastic chamber attached to a spigot, with an electrical connection. Pull it off and blow and suck to check it's not clogged up and the switch is clicking. Usually it prevents the machine from filling if it's blocked but at least it will make you look like you know what you're doing and you'll be able to shake your head and recommend he gets a bloke in.
Who knows, if the machine is over-filling you might cure it!
Our tray at the top got a bit gunked up, resulted in it overflowing rather than water going down the hose into the drum. This was a zanusi washing machine.
Basically took the tray and pipes apart and gave them a good clean. Only worked this out after taking the top off and popping it on a cycle and seeing where the water was coming from.
I had a leak coming from the drum and a racket when it spun. Turned out to be a coin had got between the metal inner and the outer casing and smashed a hole when the machine was on a spin. Wrote off that washing machine. The one that replaced it started leaking only a few months after getting it....turns out a pair of scissors from junior were washed in his school tracksuit and ripped a hole in the door seal. Fixed that with a bike puncture repair kit and it’s still working fine 2 years later.
thank you, it looks like he hasnt got the appetite for a fix, so is going to order a new one as its pretty old anyway.
saves me more hassle i spose
thanks for your advice
The door seal on ours leaked and water ran down inside around the drum and dripped into the base causing error messages. For around £20 it might be worth a go or AndyBrads second solution if you can find the hole - there was nothing visible on ours.
We had to write one off. The underwire bit of the wifes bra punched a hole through the inner and outer drum.
If you know where to look these things can be a cheap fix. If you don't, or aren't lucky, it can be a pita and expensive. I binned a boosch w/m about a year ago after I discovered it had a small leak that had been going for quite a while and although it seemed the drops originated somewhere near the detergent drawer I could not find the source. I was lucky though in as much as the machine had been left in the house when I'd bought it 10-11 years earlier so cost nothing and owed me less, and to my amazement, the cheap indesit I'd brought with me when I moved and stored in the garage for a decade still worked! It's still going now too. That will probably kill it now and with baby #3 arriving very shortly I know any time with no w/m would be a pita!
