This poor woman and her 'tiny' garden cabin has been deemed by the council as a 2nd home.

The express rises to her defence.

Yeah ok, this is pretty ridiculous given its home sized at what looks like 600 square feet. Currently in the garden of her 11 bedroom country mansion.

So if you are thinking of having a shed in the back garden, make sure its the usual 6'x8'

I’m not sure who you’re siding with here, do I need to nod along with your sarcastic comment or argue against you?

Ok I cliked the link..

“I saw on his laptop that he had all of the information about us from Booking.com and I let him take pictures."

So shes renting it out?

She says the cabin, which is no bigger than a standard garage, could not be deemed to be a second home because it just has a bathroom, a bedroom, and a lounge, but does not have a kitchen.

and it's linked to our water and electricity

Hmm...ok then...

Non story of the week from the express?

It does make one wonder exactly what audience the express are targeting...

Other than click revenue and outrage.

Oh wait... I think the penny has dropped.

Pretty obvious that it's not a second home but aren't there planning laws about what you can build on your property? Shouldn't the council use those laws if they have a problem with the cabin? Surely holiday cabins that bring in extra tourists without using up proper housing stock are exactly what they would want?

The only way to truly understand me, is by visiting my shed,it's my comfort blanket.
Imagine if you will,a mixture of a Wes Anderson film set and a bike shop from Blade Runner*
If it were ever to come under any threat,I would'tool up',take hostages**,lock myself inside, and demand a full acceptance certificate from building control.
*it's in the director's cut.
** one,maybe two Perth tories

Someone is telling porkies. AFAIK Powys is charging 75% on second homes and band a is £1200(ish) even if that went up to 300% it's still not the £9000 she's claiming.

Surely it's a business just charge full business rates.

Therein lies the problem. You cannot claim business rates on it as holiday accommodation unless it has 182 nights occupancy in the year and is available for twice that period. Anyone who only does seasonal opening due to unsuitable properties for winter use (glamping cabins with no heating/insulation for example) falls foul of this rule.

It's obvious she's upset someone in the area who's using the council to get at her ......

Its a bit daft when my neighbour built a breeze block shed in his back garden which contained all utilities, toilet etc and at least one of the lads lived in it. They had 4 kids of their own and three foster kids in a five bedroom (was 3 but extended). No planning permission. Since extended house out to side, with upper floor over the boundary fence (cut out section on ground floor so they can get round the back) and another brick extension to the rear. And two sheds in front of the house.

Size of the shed in the OP is ridiculous.

Is that regulated or just practical (as in you wouldn't get enough people to make it worth opening) ??
