You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Anyone who buys something of high value off the classifieds when the seller has only been on here for 4 days needs their head read.
First thing I do if I dont recognise the name is look at their profile and history. Anyone who's been a member less than a year is usually ignored. I'd rather lose out on a good deal than get shafted.
Out of interest, why does the OP (who seems to be solely a classifieds dweller ironically) start EVERY thread he opens with ">>". Is it some sort of code or just "LOOK AT ME IM IMPORTANT YOU KNOW"?
My ISP at home (Lancashire) means the internet thinks I'm in London... as that's where I "exit" my ISPs network.
If I were from t'Lancashire I'd pretend to be from London too.
😉
.why does the OP ...start EVERY thread he opens with ">>".
>>>maybe they're all cut and paste from a long string of emails?
you pass hundreds of pounds to someone who posts on the internet trusting them to send you the goods without any security for your payment then your surprisied when you get ripped off.
xiphon - plenty of proxies to hide an ip, to say nothing of a laptop with mobile broadband which is as traceable as a mobile phone. and a bought domain isn't necessarily static, email can be forwarded to a webmail account like hotmail which can be accessed from anywhere.
You can stop closing the door now lads, the horse is long gone...
.why does the OP ...start EVERY thread he opens with ">>".
It's Nigerian code for "sucker alert"
BigButSlimmerBloke Thankyou, I didn't know that.
I should probably recommend my employers seek a new sysadmin....
😉

wren was it?*
* one for the twitchersIs absolute gold - Well Done Sir...
I don't get it - should it go on that other thread with all the others ?
mantastic dont fkn patronise me.....ive spoke to 2 others about this and he looks like a scammer...! keep your no good comments to yourself
Um, You've posted on an internet forum, why should he keep his comments to himself?
As for being patronised, if you don't want people to patronise you then don't send people hundreds of quid for .....
I wish there was a rule where all these 'omg i've been scammed' threads had to be posted on the classified forum only.
At least I wouldn't have to read them then and it might make other people browsing the classifieds wake up a bit.

Scaredy ... It is brilliant but you have to be quite sad to know why!!
In fairness, it sometimes takes me a week just to sort packaging if I'm on earlies... That said, is it innapropriate to suggest classified only users keep their classifieds arguments over there?
If the guys an idiot and not used a proxy you can lift the original senders IP from any email sent to you.
The point is knowing the IP is pretty much useless in trying to track them down.... without a court order allowing you to find out more personal details from the ISP.....
edit
The point is knowing the IP is pretty much useless in trying to track them down.... without a court order allowing you to find out more personal details from the ISP.
Well that entirely depends on how much you care about the law....
I'm not condoning anything though.
The only people who know which account (thus property or handset) an IP is assigned to is the ISP. Unless you have mate who works there, how are you going to acquire said information 😕 You're not...
A bit like a mobile number - you have no idea if it's contract (and the bill payer has a postal address on record) or PAYG...
( Too much CSI pseudo-science! )
The only people who know which account (thus property or handset) an IP is assigned to is the ISP.
And sometimes, even the ISP doesn't know which property. They may get the right street...and obviously the authorities could find out eventually...probably.

That sounds like crap tbh. I've never had one where you diod not have to give them a full postal address, as well as them having your card details for billing.
Perhaps if you proxied through a chinese box or something then fair enough.
I'd wager that all this IP tracking would be a lot more difficult than Singletrack Towers checking the address he gave when he signed up for his premier account.
If required, by court order, to disclose information, they can provide the following (and more).... and I'm assuming the criminal isn't using a proxy of any kind. Just a plain home router, straight onto the internet.
1. Which account the IP was allocated to at what time.
2. Who the registered holder of the account is.
3. Their billing details - CC number, bank details (for DD), etc. The
police *may* need a separate court order to ask the bank for more details, if the ISP does not have enough.
4. The postal address of the account holder.
5. The MAC address of the router connected to them (used to forensically tie the home router and a PC at the home together)
6. Last time the router logged in and synchronised.
etc etc etc.
(In other words, LOTS of info about the IP given to them by the Police)
(And I've had to disclose this information while working at an ISP...)
Cougar - STW Towers are bound by the Data Protection Act, so can't give out peoples personal info to anybody unless legally required...
I got done on pinkbike, had the blokes IP address, last log in, email address and bank details.....and the police did nothing, they just simply were not interested.
I'd wager that all this IP tracking would be a lot more difficult than Singletrack Towers checking the address he gave when he signed up for his premier account.
Exactly.
Time will tell I suppose..........
(Although if the OP had posted that the ipad was cheaper somewhere else he would have been banned by now 🙄 )
Trailmoggy make an official complaint. Ask for the Officers name and number and escalate. I was gobsmacked when my Aunt bought a ringed car from an address and the Police said they hadn't even been round there.
I rang the local police station and because the ****t lived in Shrewsbury Greater Manchester police said it was West Mercia police's responsibility so rang West Mercia and they said It was Greater Manchesters responsibility, I even rang the met at London and they said it was up to my local police to report it to West Mercia.
Knowing this i made and appointment and my local police station, the police man I saw threatened to lock my up I had that big a paddy in there.
It was making me Ill so my wife just told me to forget it.
So in my experience the police are a complete waste of time.
(Although if the OP had posted that the ipad was cheaper somewhere else he would have been banned by now )
Thanks for your valuable input but as Cougar says we can't just give out members details there is a formal process. That does not mean we may have taken some other action to try and help the OP.
No. Public sector passing the buck.
Sorry so its not a crime to them?
www.ipcc.gov.uk/en/Pages/your_complaint_.aspx
There are many branches of the Police. Yes they are stretched within departments with workload but this ****er may have multiple victims. Smoking, riding and drinking on others wages. If any STW officers think we shouldn't kick back at such service from forces? I'm all ears.

Bought him an Etch-A-Sketch?
Ouch!
😀
I would need a bit more than 'I bought something 5 days ago and it hasn't arrived yet' to record that as a crime. You wouldn't expect them to do that every time an order from a shop was late (Dave Hinde would have his own cell).
4 days in this weather is not enough for dummy spitting.
DHinde is rude. Not a criminal. Whereas there have been Officers who are.
4 days/postage? Wonder if seller has responded/assured?..
DHinde is rude. Not a criminal.
Exactly.

I think it is. Sorry, no comms from a new seller on a item like a iPad 3, then I reckon panic is warranted.
This does not excuse the OP for being a spanner, and sending a chunk of cash to a stranger on the internet.
How many more times it was a mistake...! Yeah a stupid one...I am happy to report I had an email last night from a fella who knows who he is and where he works.. I went there today and smashed him up, gave it to him badly, even broke his fingers so he won't be doing it again. Right daydream over
I struggle with long sentences
Can somebody please give me a summary of what's happened?
I would like it in rhyming couplets or haiku if possible.
Awfully kind of you, thanks.
The op has not a new ipad;
Somewhere a wren farts

Here's Ollie with the thread report.
Guy advertised iPad
Guy Paid by PayPal gift
Not his Fault
Guy hasn't received iPad after 5 days
Guy got angry, posted on internet
Both got flamed.
And the OP says up there ^ he's found the seller and given him a big slice of fist pie.
If the OP has used violence to resolve this, it says a lot about the type of person the OP is. Disgraceful.
Are you all missing this bit:
Right daydream over
🙄
Here we have, a possibly ripped off, forum user in his natural habitat. The STW Classifieds.
We can tell by his furious typing that he has paid for something with Paypal gift.
Although, the pheromones he is releasing, suggest he believes this is an innocent mistake to make, and seems confused at the treatment he is receiving.
With no sign of the accused member, the forum has sensed weakness, so shuns the forum member. Some mocking him.
Ostracised, the forum member moves to another part of the internet...maybe to start his own tribe of Audi owning, IT managing, Orange riding bipeds.
jamie. Genius... Thanks!
Ok so hands up who reads Jamie's post 'in the voice'?
😆 excellent work
Good work Jamie.
You think a trader would know better than using PayPal gift!?
Mother *** advertises iPad.
Mother buys it with mother Paypal gift.
OP wants to know where his mother * iPad is.
Mother has gone all silent like a snake mother
OP post on the mother * forum.
Mother * forum * give him *.
Mod's try to appease OP with a mother **** Etch-a-mother-*-sketch
...on the plus side, That's my Bad Mother *** wallet!
The one thing worse than buying Marzocchi is to buy used sealed electronic goods anyway IMO
Jamie...you're wasted on here...

Maybe the fraudster is a Marzocchi rep?
Jamie, Id add to your rep if I could. Why haz we no rep? Mibbes that would help theses clueless punters parting with large amounts of folding to folk that have just breezed in.

I have genuinely not laughed so much at a thread on this forum since "The Badger" thread.
Do you do bar-mitzvahs?
😀
Received your goods yet, or am I still being patronising? Do you get a guarantee with your expensive purchase?
I think I have a man crush on Jamie - good work sir!

Man in 'I sent cash to a stranger but he promised he was nice" Internet shocker.
The Internet is no different to real life. You wouldn't just post someone £300 cash and hope for the best would you? Jesus.
Feel sorry for OP's daughter who lost her Xmas money.
People make mistakes. Those saying OP is a plank, as they never make
mistakes...
Serves a warning to the rest of us.
I wonder if anything has actually been received yet or contact been made?
All seems to have gone a bit silent now
anyone want to buy my IPad?£150 posted, paypal gift only please
Aye go on then, I'll send you £150, but i'll pay the fees.
when will you post?
Nope me and 3 others have been done, looks like I can get my $$ back as I went to the police and got a crime no. Not sure about the others tho (:0(
how do you get your £££ when you gave it to him as a gift? crime number or no crime number?
Does this then implicate you in fee avoidance?
Tricky that. "I gave someone a gift and got nothing in return." And?
Does this then implicate you in fee avoidance
Is that a crime? 😕
Who would be giving you your money back? I see no reason for PP to be out of pocket for your complicit abuse of their system without them being able to recover the money from the "offender". And you would have to be a pretty daft scammer to set up their end with money still available.
Nope me and 3 others have been done, looks like I can get my $$ back as I went to the police and got a crime no.
I would be interested to know how you think a crime number will help you get your money back ?
What exactly are you going to do with the crime number.
(I'm not being harsh intentionally, I just don't see what he'll a crime number will be that's all)
*Naomi is watching*

I think you'll find that he wouldn't buy anything Over the Internet.. Jesus saves
Just caught up with this thread, sat in a coffee shop. It's as much as I can do to not embarrass myself by laughing out loud and crying at Jamie's Mother *** genius Mother ing post. Thank you, sir, and Mother ***ing chapeau to you, you've quite made my day. 😆
