I currently have an old Apple MacBook 80gb laptop and its hard drive is just about full. I've been looking at buying a 2tb Apple Time Capsule to transfer the music and movie files to but have come up with what I think is a good idea if it'll work for streaming movies to my 42" Plasma TV.
Planning on buying the Time Capsule and for the Plasma an Apple TV and Apple Mini Mac computer directly connected to the television and using the Apple Wireless mouse and keyboard to control it. So my question is can I stream films directly to my TV from the Time Capsule whilst using the Plasma screen as what would be a computer monitor to use iTunes? Think the question makes sense but any advice would be great!
.
Yes, but I'd still need a computer with iTunes to stream the movies that's why I want a mini mac connected to the TV to keep everything together and wireless.
think this is the way i'm going next, i have an iMac which i just basically use for storing my media on, would be better off with just a mac mini hooked up to the tv. If you have the mac mini, I don't see a need for the apple tv though.
Does the TV have DLNA, as this eliminate a lot of issues with streaming to the TV
You can do all this for free with linux if you have sufficient hardware and some common sense. Just thought I'd mention that 😈
We have an identical (almost) issue. I went out and got a Buffalo net station live, a 2tb network hard drive, which works as our Itunes database, Web access and DNLA server which our TV picks up and reads through it's network connection. If you don't have DNLA this won't work. We have also got a Screen to HDMI cable for a direct connection but it's a pest as there is not sound so that has to be run via another cable.
Didn't like the apple TV as it ties you into Apples world. There are small TV media players which will off a hard disc or usb/sd card for simplicity I might look at those.
