So in an effort to save some money over a wooden shed, I bought a 10x6 Waltons steel shed.

Delivered quickly, but missing hinges and with scratches on a fair few components - It looked like it was a pack that had been opened before.

Putting it together, it clearly is a 'budget' shed, with instructions drawn by a blind monkey. A couple of holes did not quite line up and lots of odd edges and holes not quite finished properly, the ridge panels are a couple of mm out height wise, colour differences between panels etc etc.

However, now I have got to the roof, the main roof truss to wall holes are drilled in the wrong place - only a couple of mm off, but being a corner, you just cannot get the bolt in. In addition, the roof panel holes don't line up with edge of roof, each other or main roof truss.

Phone call to Waltons on Monday when they open. In the meantime, where do I stand on distance selling regs, and the fact that it took construction to discover the not fit for purpose issues?

(For future reference for anyone, it also sells as Mercia Steel Shed and Absco steel shed.)

IIRC you have 7 days under DSR and can inspect the goods. Id like to think that would cover working out whether it fits together.

Fitness for purpose is SOGA stuff I think, can't remember if that allows you a refund.

14 days under DSR in which you can change your mind.

Sales of Goods Act as said if it's a fitness for purpose issue. Though tbh, could you not just drill it out if you were prepared to keep going up till that issue?

Think I have a second hand one, looks like a pile of crap (bent, rusty) but does the job well enough till I can get a proper one.

We used to sell metal sheds where I worked. I had to make a display one once, never ever again. Total rubbish!!

Total rubbish!!

Experiential learning has just taught me [s]this.[/s] that cheap steel sheds are as bad as cheap wood sheds.

It's packed ready to go back. They saw a couple of pics and didn't argue.

Let's see if they take 30 days to refund...

Inherited one of these with the house. It keeps the rain off the mower and the garden furniture and that's it. Utterly utterly crap. Particularly love the way the sliding doors can just be unscrewed from their runners on the outside of the shed.
