Hi,
I have to repaint the hallway and would like to get a decent finish. The walls are in reasonable but not great shape and have a couple of imperfections and uneven bits. There is no peeling paint, cracks or damp issues. Is this product any good for the above
https://www.polycell.co.uk/product/polycell-smoothover-for-damaged-and-textured-walls/
or is there something else that I should look at?
Thanks,
How many imperfections are you looking to fill? I've used that smoothover stuff before. It works well & is convenient, but goes a very long way. i thought I had quite a bit to sort out, but used about an 1/8 of a tub.
Should have just bought a large box of polyfilla & used that instead.
1kg of ready mixed polyfilla is <£6
900g of polyfilla powder is £3 and will make loads more than the pot of ready mixed.
And, mixing your own polyfilla feels like doing 'proper DIY' so it obviously better.
@stumpy01 there is actually quite a bit to do so it sounds like it is just the job as I just need a light skim which can be sanded. Polyfilla is more for bigger defects though I think, as much as I'd like to try to negotiate mixing it with an interested 4 yeear old 'helping' me....
I got a big tub of something (from Wickes but can't find it on the website at the mo).
Advantages over polyfilla - smoother and easier to apply, softer so easier to sand smooth.
Disadvantages against polyfilla - shrinks more so imperfections over 5mm deep may need a 2nd pass, takes longer to dry (esp. compared to the 10min quick drying stuff).
If I remember, I'll have a look at what I used, later.
Thanks Jon
