Can anyone recommend a set please? use will be sking/biking in the hills and some potential on the water use so the more water 'resistant' the better.

If you just want to use them as a pair/set and not worried about communicating with other PMR users then I'd suggest looking at the US spec ones, something like this...

Have a look on ebay you will find loads from US sellers.

The advantage with these is the power output 5W, ten times more than the 0.5W output of PMR's. The extra range is great, especially in ski resorts.

They work on differnent frequencies (FRS/GMRS) to the UK/European PMR's so not compatible, and strictly not legal, but you will still hear people using them in the European ski resorts.

I have a 4W set that run on 4 AA batteries and get three or four days skiing out of them before needing to recharge.
