Hello clever computer people ! 😀
W10 has stopped allowing my secure USB stick from running its .exe file, which means I can't use it easily - won't even run as administrator. It's an oldish stick and I wonder if a certificate may be invalid but I doubt that I can alter it
I found a means of forcing some kind of super-admin status via cmd but that's a one-off fix (I also see that using cmd as admin to run the exe may also work but I'm lazy and I want my autorun back, or at least to just double click on the exe file when I put the stick in).
Anybody got a good plan, please ?
I don't know anything about Safestick, but I'd be tempted just to copy the data off, format it and set it back up from scratch rather than cock about with it for days.
Maybe look at Truecrypt to encrypt it instead? It's apparently "obsolete" but still works fine.
As an aside, I'd be interested as to what this "super admin" thing is.
Does it work if you right-click on it and select 'run as administrator'(as opposed to just running it when logged in under an administrator account)?
If so, you can create a shortcut to the item, right-click on it and select Properties, click the advanced button and then check the 'run as administrator' checkbox.
This sounds a bit like some locked down machines we had at work that we wanted to use encrypted USBs with, and we couldn't run the decryption .exe files. The admin said it was a Group Policy setting, and managed to change it, but didn't tell us what the setting was. A web search suggests it might be:
Group Policy Editor > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates\System\Device Installation\Device Installation Restrictions
this has an option to restrict or allow installation of devices, and also an over-ride setting for admins.
Applocker might be stopping this (Work PC or Group Policy/registry frigged with?)

net user administrator /active:yes
apparently sets up a sort of unrestricted admin account (with no password!)
I can't reformat the stick - it has on-stick encryption that my work pc insists on and is supposedly tamper-proof
Ah; don't work support it, then?

Will take a look, taGroup Policy Editor > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates\System\Device Installation\Device Installation Restrictions
Home PC and has recently started (or rather stopped) doing this but I'll have a look at thatApplocker might be stopping this (Work PC or Group Policy/registry frigged with?)
Thanks so far !

This is on my home pc, and no, work don't even support our work PCs properly
Update
seemsthat "disabling smartscreen" might help but before I found that I found autorun settings and set them all to "ask me what to do"
Just tried reinserting the stick, pc asked what to do and I chose to run the exe from a list of options - and it works. Weird, still can't run the exe via file explorer, even as administrator
😕
Wut?
Weird.
