Picking up a T5 Kombi this week

Van has been lowered on 20in rims, usual modded T5 looks, well kept van with 2 owners, FSH, cambelt and water pump being done as we speak, only things that need improving is the interior, seat covers are easy to sort but the entertainment system etc.. needs sorting

Any good T5 forums for doing the following, Stereo installs, looking to upgrade the single din headunit to a double din one with sat nav, bluetooth, options to add a reversing camera, outputs for amp and sub etc.. also would like to add usb charging ports for the rear seat passengers

Also thinking of adding cruise control and maybe upgrading the steering wheel for a multi function one

So whats the best T5 sites for this sort of stuff?

http://professionalvwconversions.co.uk/ for the really technical stuff - pricy but good work IMHO

https://www.t6forum.com/

Try looking at the latest Alpine Halo units which work well in transporters (again IMO)

How old?
Default answer for ice is speak to Jason at absolut5 , he will do you a complete kit for everything you need.

If you’re midlands based have a word with professional retrofits in higham on the hill for your cruise and msfw.

This used to be the place. Not looked for a long while but 12 years ago when I fitted out my T4 it was great. Now mainly T5s despite the name:

The sony double din units work reliably and quicky (which is a bit of a gamble with some Ali direct brands which are cheaper). I think mine was £250 on Amazon. Nothing vw specific about it, it's fitted to a gt86

I've installed this in my old t5 and my current t5.1. Great radio, recommended on here when I asked. Uses the phone for sat nav when connected by usb. Usb also charges the phone.

Its available cheaper if you shop around

And then this fitting kit for a vw t5.1

https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/volkswagen-caddy-eos-fusca-golf-jetta-magotan-double-din-car-stereo-cd-fitting-kit.html

It will even take a reversing camera.

As for cruise control, let me know what you decide to do. I've been toying with this idea. You can either add a stalk or change the steering wheel. Lots of vw golf steering wheels on ebay and Facebook.

I fitted a Sony CarPlay double din unit to my 2005 T5. Didn’t even need an adaptor. Only issue was VW switched live is opposite to everyone else’s.

Angle of the dash means screen visibility is a bit poor in bright sunlight.

Cheers for all the replies, will check the links out

Its a 2011 Kombi (double sliding doors & a tailgate)

Need to check the BCM is an 087 one for the cruise control fitting

If that's good then ill prob go down the new steering wheel route rather than stalk operated cruise control

Im based in Hampshire so prefer any install work to be in that sort of area

How hard is it to do an install, does it affect the canbus?

Used to fit large I.C.E installs in my cars years ago but never had to contend with canbus systems

I've fitted a few head units in VWs - if you buy the correct loom adaptor (and steering wheel control adaptors if needed) and it was plug and play.

@escrs T5.1 cruise is on stalk unless using an emulator to mod to factory signals and make it work from a steering wheel.

Which engine does it have, or which power more crucially? Miles and rough price?

Forgot to reply to this the other day!

@steveh cheers

Its a Kombi with the 2.0 140bhp engine, twin sliding doors with tailgate

Its done 160'000 miles, full VW history with the first owner, im the 3rd owner, 2nd owner was my mate who owns his own gargae and has had Transporters for 20+ years so it has wanted for nothing

Just had the cambelt and water pump done, lowered 20mm, brand new 20in wheels and tyres, seats have had covers on from new so are super clean, it came with loads of extras, OG alloys with nearly new tyres, rear bumper stick on protector strip, rubber strips to minimise road noise through the sliding doors, plus a box of bits ive not had time to go through yet

Paid 15k for it
