I know there's one or two VW T5 owners on the forum so I thought it was a good place to ask. I have a (new to me) 2011 T5 which will slowly be transformed into a one man camper for biking / surfing / festival use. However I will sometimes have my 9 year old daughter with me so was thinking a cab bunk would be a good addition. Prices seem to vary between £50 for non-branded from ebay to £400 for a Reimo job. What do people on here use? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

£50 ish one from ebay. its basically some pipe fitting, pipe and stitched canvas. the boy seems happy enough with it though.

does mean you can't really open the doors while its setup, and a windscreen cover is good if you want to make it dark for them. we fold the passenger seat down to make the access easy.

this is a good screen and means you can have the windows open at the same time.

£50 ones are fine. They will have a weight and size limit though. Depending on how tall your 9 year old is, you might not get many more years use before they are too big for it.
They do restrict your use of swivel seats, or at least mean you have to swivel them back and forth each evening/morning.
In my T5 when the bed was down if the front seat wasnt swivelled then you only get a tiny area to stand/ get chenged in, and no-where to put stuff. The front seats where always covered in clothes/stuff.

There was a VW Forum post about making one out of an army surplus stretcher - think it was just cutting down the handles to length and making a rough wooden brace for each end. Was thinking of doing the same to the Caravelle, so me and the boy could do over night bouldering trips (and I'd get the boot which I might actually sleep in)

Made ours from a £12 Go Outdoors camp bed.
Cut the end poles down to correct length so they sit on both door cards.
Don't fit the end set of legs.
Job done.
Will try and find you a pic if you want to pm me.

Volkswagen Transporter Windscreen Cover

until it rains and you have a soggy wet bundle of fabric to put away. i have the same one. does do a good job of blocking out all light, mind.

We use a £50 one in our T4 some times but we put a double self inflating sleeping mat over the top which makes it big and comfy, our 8 year old loves it.
We only use it when its cold and we don't want to pop the top, or if we don't want to be too obvious. We prefer being able to open and shut the front doors.
