Apologises if this has been asked before. I've been looking at 8 seater SWB VW Shuttles. Are they classed as a car / MPV? I've done a HPI report and it's coming up as:-

Body plan - MPV
DVLA Vehicle Type Approval M1

Does that mean it's classed as a car with car speed limits?

Yes. Same as a car.

Get a Trafic instead. Half the price, roomier, won't rust out from under you.

7 seat caravelle here. Down sides, more costly to tax than a van

Up sides, easier to insure as a non tradesman, better equipment than a van, car speed limits, car for the purposes of things like the tip, ferries, toll roads etc (sometimes you need to argue the toss)

Watch out with the shuttle as some insurers lose their minds at 8 seats so check to be sure that’s not going to be a problem

I have a t5. My friend has a t5 shuttle, they are the same age.

Mine incurs a £9 charge to enter Bradford, his is free as its classed as a car. Both are exactly the same and converted into campervans.

Check the reg on the gov page for ulez.

The shuttle was harder to convert as it had extra bits to remove.
