Picked up a used VW Polo for Mrs. C. last night. It seems that there is an issue with the central locking. If I unlock on the drivers side, only the drivers door opens. Unlock on the passenger side and all is OK. Is there anything I can look at quickly before I contact the garage and take it back in?
It is covered by warranty but if there's a quick easy solution that will save the hassle. Cheers.
You don't state the age of the car, but here's a thought: if you try unlocking again on the drivers side do the rest of the doors unlock?
I had a courtesy Golf which drove me mad as only the driver's door would unlock on first press of the key fob - then I discovered that two presses unlocked the rest of the doors.
It's a safety feature - God forbid anyone should be chasing you or your Mrs but wouldn't you be glad if only the driver's door opened as you were trying to get into the car?
Seems like a good feature to me, if that's what it is!
It's possibly a security thing - my car only unlocks the driver's door unless I click the button twice, when they all unlock. I imagine it's to stop the axe-wielding folk from jumping in
I think my old Scorpio used to do that; pressing 'unlock' on the fob a second time would unlock all the doors.
You might also find that if you lock or unlock with the key and hold the key turned for a few more seconds the windows will all open or close, plus the sunroof if there is one. I like this feature!
Oh, and also,
I think it was a setting; you could enable / disable the 'feature' somehow with some sort of Vulcan Nerve Pinch on the controls. Don't ask me how though, it was over a decade ago. RTFM?
That sounds normal as per my wifes polo.
I upgraded to remote locking for about £50 in parts and it's still just as annoying.
