I have a 51 plate passat estate.

The motor that pulls the cable that opens the boot all mounted into the boot has become very slow over time.

I gave it a quick squirt with WD40 to see if that helped and it seems to have made it worse do people think this is a coincidence. It jams in the open position so the boot wont latch and a sharp bang to the motor sometimes gets it to release.

I was wondering what the motor is called so I could find out how much a replacment part might be and also weather more WD40 might rectify the problem.

Also does anybody know if the motor needs to be coded or can I just get a new one and fit it.

It's the boot lock actuator, it doesn't need to be coded. Just disconnect it from the lock ( with tailgate open) to make sure the catch isn't seizing up.
