As above, my wife has entered a claim on behalf of my aunt, who had (until a couple of weeks ago) a 1.6d skoda fabia.
The firm used are pgmbm, they have a professional looking website and advertise on tv.
This has been ongoing for a while, but vw have settled out of court.
So, a couple of days later, my wife received an email, outlining the payment process, which is to be dealt with by a third party.
So, she contacts them, fills in the relevant acc no/sort code and acc name, this has to match the name on the claim, to avoid fraud, fair enough.
She then gets an email back, asking for the bank ‘customer number’ this is where she feels suspicious, as the bank say it is not required to process payment.
Is she being scammed?
Is it an elaborate phishing attempt?
Anyone else used this firm for a vw group claim?
I’m aware that one of the conditions is not to discuss the amount, so don’t tell me yours if you have.
I thought Slater and Gordon were the only solicitors working on the case against VW?
Yep, sounds like a phishing scam
And the Slater and Gordon Email specifies payment by cheque
Thanks guys, i guess the old adage ‘if you need to ask, then it’s a scam’ should apply.
I guess the more info that is supplied then the more will be asked for?
Sounds scammy. I would be changing the password on my email account at this point as it seems like a well targeted attack (spear phishing).
They actually say they need the customer number to verify identity, but it feels odd that they were happy with the identity details when they went to court.
They have 29 reviews on Trustpilot and 97% rate them as bad.
However, they do seem legit as they are mentioned here: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/diesel-emissions-group-legal-claims/#join
*Not sure why I am googling this information for you!
Well, I appreciate that you did, that’s exactly what i found.
Yeah the reviews weren’t good, but nothing is actually suggesting they’re not legit.
She’s used a disposable email address, so she can always get rid of it if she has to.
My gut instinct is have no involvement, can they actually do anything with the bank customer number?
I think people who claim on this, who didn’t actually lose a damn thing, deserve to at least be at risk of being scammed. 😂
Imo... They have no legitimate reason to ask for your bank customer number. You are being scammed. Agree with above about changing passwords.
As far as I’m aware, this was a US specific issue, centred around avoiding NO emissions, not CO2 which was what the EU were concerned about, ie climate change which Americans don’t give a shit about. So why would anyone owning a VAG vehicle deserve a payout? Other than entitlement.
They're in companies house, and were another claims lawyer type company previously. But the vast majority of the reviews concerning them is they dont give a rats arse about the clients.
Theres a picture of the guy who runs it. Its one of those sneering faces of pure arrogance that makes you want to punch it on general principle.
What I would gather from this company and no doubt others is the vast majority of the money recovers will go to the solicitors fees and the actual member of the public will get little.
They’re being told that they’ll have to verify her identity some other way, and they’ll be raising a cheque as well.
So we’ll see how that goes.
My wife has been told not to get involved with shit like this in future.
Owners should not profit from it, and all payouts should go to environmental causes.
Just imo obviously.
It's all complete ball cocks. No 'owner' actually suffered a loss. There maybe should be an emissions fine but not to owners.
Personally I agree with the commentators above that as this was a device designed to cheat US emissions law, there's no reason for European owners to get any compensation.
I doubt my colleague who has just left to pay his 1700 quid cheque into the bank would wholeheartedly agree with me! 😨
