Yeah sure I could get out of the house and do actual stuff etc etc but decided to get a VR headset - mainly for RC flying sims as they are a great learning aid but also just because I have fancied one for a while and they are now at a price that is just about justifiable.
So, I have sold a little more of my soul to Zuck and plumped for an Oculus Quest 2. By golly what fun - totally immersive and slightly bizarre at first but just immense. And actually - given how much the boy is lurching around the living room at the moment he is getting far more of a workout than he would in front of the PlayStation.
Can't wait to try Elite and a few other VR ready PC games 🙂
Yep great fun - I have a PSVR one and both myself and my girls love it. I like Star Wars Squadrons, they love Walk the Plank - especially when they have friends round who have never used a VR headset.
I just wish I could get some Move Controllers FFS.
If you don't mind being creeped out then Half Life Aklyx is amazing, can get very intense at some points though, maybe not one for the nippers.
@hatter - on it for sure. Being the Quest 2 it can be entirely standalone as well so have Walking Dead - Saints & Sinners and a few others installed on the headset directly. Can see me having some fun with this... if I ever get a looking in as finleybgoode has taken a shine to it!
PSVR here, star wars squadrons is good, tempted to get skyrim.
I keep forgetting I have one. It’s great. I tend to get very sweaty shooting zombies like a loon. Right it’s beer night tonight so I am charging up the oculus. Has anyone tried drawing a massive Gardian in an outdoor space? Might do it. Though neighbours might freak out thinking I have gone potty.
I've got one word for you: Pistol Whip
Absolutely phenomenal game, would be a bargain at twice the price.
Yep got Pistol Whip, Superhot, Walking Dead and Contractors on the headset directly. Need to work through my Steam library to see what is VR Ready as well.
The Quest 2 has just been updated so it'll run on a PC wirelessly also so no link cable needed anymore 🙂
Microsoft flight sim, Iracing and realflight mostly here, wife likes beatsaber and moss.
Aerobatics in flight sim can get a bit much sometimes with motion sickness and I still have to remember there is no need to brace for impact crashing in to things.
Oculus Quest - the VR headset for the next generation of PornHub users 😹
The VR headsets always look to me like someone is wearing a Plimsoll on their face.
Just cant get the image out of my head 😆
@johndoh check Facebook marketplace there's loads on there for reasonable price.
Yeah, they are really good. Dogfighting in Elite is a really good use case for them, but beware of the driving part… having a vehicle stop suddenly when you run into things does odd things to my head!
I miss my VR setup. I should move it to the house and start using it again.
Try Google Earth as well, it’s like travelling without leaving your room. I went to Seoul and Tokyo the other week.
VR is awesome fun. I use it mostly for IL2 Sturmovik: Great Battles with a HOTAS set up, the first few dogfights I got into gave me the shakes!
I wish they'd hurry up with the PSVR2 but looks like Christmas 2022 now 🙁
If you have a PC then playing saints and sinners on the quest is a bit if a waste, it's one of the best games available and deserves to be run on the best hardware you can. It's just about to get a story update too. It's cross buy so you should already own it on the oculus desktop store 👍
Alyx, S&S and Boneworks all amazing on PCVR, Beat Saber, Smash Drums, Pistol Whip and the Climb get most of my time on native quest
They're definitely the next big thing in gaming. I can't be bothered playing any first-person shooters on PS5 or PC anymore, I'd much rather be in VR and actually ducking for cover playing Onward.
Also Thrill Of The Fight is the first game I've ever woken up the next day after playing with aching muscles everywhere. 12 rounds on that is a proper workout.
Half life? Crikey it scared me a bit at times when I played the original game many many years, I’d probably need to wear an adult nappy if I played a newer version with a VR headset. 😂😂

Yeah I know but it's meant to be a very belated Christmas present so I would prefer new if I can.
@johndoh - I was the same. Yes there are some decent prices out there but you do not know how the headset has been treated, whether the previous owner has somehow knackered the battery a bit etc.
Definitely worth getting though, what it lacks slightly graphically it more than makes up for in total immersion. As @thebibbles says, it's hard to imagine playing anything 2D again 🙂

Apparently in the early PSVR game Farpoint they actually had to tone it down because it was just too scary. The little crab things that jump out at you run back in front of you before they jump again. Originally they just swarmed all over but it was just too intense.
Did you ever on the later HL expansions - Blue Shift, that you can play the levels in reverse 😕
Find a section you can drop down into the lower levels of the train subway and move backward so to speak.
Theres always an area where you can see points you get to much later in the game, so getting to those first, then exploring added quite an interesting element to the gameplay.
I also discovered on HL2, when you have the gravity gun and you fire a saw blade into a wall, you cant use the part of the blade sticking out to jump on to reach ,non reachable areas, but if you place other objects onto the blades you can jump onto them.
Example I found to shoot 2 saw blades level near to one another, you can pick up and place a bench or table onto them, then jump up onto the that.
