Tried a PS4 VR headset at the weekend and really enjoyed it.

Always been a gamer since my Acorn Electron days and seeing how good the vr games are getting I think I could be tempted to get one.

I have a gaming laptop that gets used for BF4 and will work with a vr headset so looking to buy one for that.

Have any of you gone down this route? Which one did you buy?

PSVR here. when combined with a steering wheel (GT Sport) it's amazing, properly immersive. I know it isn't the best performing one (the VR aspects of a lot of the PS4 games are pretty limited, Dirt rally is the one with the most VR content), so i can imagine a top spec one would be properly ace, if not cheap.

I do think that the games where the player is stationary in a moving thing (car/plane/walker) would be better, as yu are sat in the same position as you would be in the game, which adds to the realism, though i haven't tried much else

HTC vive here. Since I play mostly flight sims/Driving games it's epic, and I'll proabbly be upgrading to the Steam VR headset at some point.

Rift here. Pretty awesome for elite and diving games, but it turns out for the most part I've got better things to do with my time...

Depends what you want it for. If you don't have any specific games in mind, I'd strongly consider the Oculus Quest. No wires, no external cameras, all in one unit. Downside is it runs on weaker hardware, and may be less appealing since you already have a decent laptop, but wires are the worst thing about current VR headsets imo.

I have the Rift CV1, it's good fun but frankly too much of a pain to use regularly with my PC, since it needs 4 USB slots and is finicky about them (on older or low end motherboards at least). I end up crawling around under my desk plugging and unplugging USB leads, restarting my PC and messing with power settings every time I use it.

The main options right now boil down to Oculus Quest (£400, no PC needed), Oculus Rift S (£400, wired to PC but no external cameras; slight downgrade from CV1 in some areas but better comfort and convenience), and Valve Index (£920, high end, probably needs a beefier PC to get the most out of it).

I've been holding off a couple of years waiting for the tech to improve. I've used the PSVR and it's fun but also, for me at least, very obviously compromised on the resolution front. I was thinking about getting the Valve Index but the reviews have been a bit mixed 🙁

Cost is a factor so i think i can rule out the Valve index which is more than double the cost of it competitors.

Looking like either oculus rift s or the oculus quest (Just for cable free)

I might contact scan and see if I can try one before buying.
