I use the opera VPN whilst on open WiFi. Quite good in that you don't have to be using the opera browser to be protected just use the app. Therefore your covered for email, Facebook etc...

Yes, I use PIA. I don't like my ISP logging how much time I spend on STW.

I kind of use a VPN , tunnel all my traffic over SSH to a VPS

Fairly easy to setup and free if you already have a VPS

VPS and SSH tunnel here too.
Means the dodgy service located in the jurisdiction of choice is mine, rather than public.

My parents use something called tunnelbear, costs about $50 a year. Mainly because my dad's a bit of a tinfoil hat wearer.

Work
Watching tv when overseas
Mine didn’t work for buying lottery tickets but others here have access
Other firends used it to access Skype which is otherwsie blocked in the Middle East (i assume to boost phone company revenue)
Strong (about £25 a year)

Mainly because my dad's a bit of a tinfoil hat wearer

Got to hide from the kids, always after something 🙂

Ghost VPN for almost everything. Strangely, Now TV doesn't like it, but almost everything else is fine.

Work have their own private thing, but that's only used on the work laptop.

CyberGhost (plus I think Lookout now automatically does a VPN too).

For mobile and desktop.

I don't do anything I need to worry about online but I don't like the idea of my ISP's storing everything I do indefinitely.

My Asus router with Merlin firmware supports open VPN. Free app for android means secure public WiFi.

Can you use a VPN to access bbc iPlayer when travelling abroad? Also I don't think Netflix will work?

I get the use of a vpn to a point especially on open wifi networks or overseas to use geographically controlled serivices. For general use though surely whereever you breakout onto the internet becomes the isp and at that point can log all of your internet usuage, and are they any more competent or better regulated that BT, Virgin etc..

Please enlighten me as i feel like im missing something. 99% of my internet use is ssl/tls encrypted id guess anyway, so the main thing to worry about is isp logging addresses isnt it.
