Grew up in Volvo estates. My dad has recently got a 2015 V60 D4 having sold an XC60 and I love it. I’m looking for a newer shape (2019/20) V60 as the possible favourite for replacing my 7 year old Citroen C4.
I want a diesel so that limits me to 2019/20 (as does the budget).
what I wanted to ask is if anybody has driven a D3?
I plan to try one but given I’m coming from a 115bhp Citroen I think I’d be more than happy enough with the 150bhp D3 .
Cheaper car Plus cheaper insurance - tho I realise MPG in the D4 is about the same.
If anybody else has / has had a newer style V60 I’d love to hear about your experience.
Can't answer your main question, but I do have a new shape V60, a D4. It's a 2019 MY but I got it in November 2018, so it's just coming up to 5 years old. In that time it's had regular servicing, 4 tyres, and fuel. Pretty much looks like new. I like it a lot.

Tell him to keep an eye on oil consumption, especially if it's getting towards 100k - a Volvo specialist local to me won't sell that era 4cylinder diesel because of issues & my V40 is about to have £3.5 warranty work to get it sorted.
Pretty much echo onewheelgood above. I have a 2020 D4 bought March 22 with just under 20k on it. Now on over 60k and its been great. Even the dealer is very good (ok you pay for it). Suprisingly big car as I had mondeo's for years before this I only had to rationalise my kit a little bit.
Can't comment on the diesel engine, but tried to love one when I test drove it, but just couldn't.
Boot size was compromised, rear visibility poor, auto box felt clunky and the touch screen controls for heating were just awful.
As for the sat nav....
Ended up with an A4 which has none of those issues.
We've got a 2015 D3 V40 with an auto box, so I've no idea if that relates to the car you're looking at.
Just about the only thing that annoys me about it is the pretty poor economy (about 40mpg) and the gearbox lag when pulling away. We did talk about getting it remapped when we first bought it up to 190, but 5 years later we haven't got round to doing it which says that It's quick enough.
No issues at all in 5 years.

Not the same car, but exactly the same issues... I've just had my v90 Polestar Optimised and it's night and day. Makes a huge difference and improves economy by +5mpg.
2019 t5 had it for 3 years, never had any issues been a great car,.touchscreen controls I find, are easy to use, auto box is a bit dim but smooth enough
I had a 2018 V60 D4. Not sure I’d want anything less as it’s a big car.
Only fault over 3 years was the 12V battery flashing up a warning, which was actually rectified by a software update.
CarPlay etc is an optional extra but can be fitted by the dealer. Parking sensors cannot.
V60 Recharge here- not impressed
lots of niggly things that are annoying; awful satnav, laggy and cumbersome touchscreen, automatic boot lid that randomly closes on my head
but the most annoying thing is the fact the electric heater has broken again, which is likely to mean a second winter without preheat and a cabin heater
volvo customer service has been poor.
I certainly wouldn’t have another; my old 320d was miles better at everything.
Had a V60 D4 for about 100k. It threw a total wobble at about 75k, flywheel, clutch etc. Left me stranded. Got it back from Volvo (Derby) and 1 week later it blew one of the hydraulic lines and left me stranded on a busy roundabout. AA man diagnosed a missing clip on the line. When I was dropped back off at the dealer they smiled and literally said “well we don’t build them”. It was a great car but would never have another due to the dealers attitude.
I've had 4 V60s (2 old shape D3s, one 5 cyl, one 4 cyl, both manuals, did about 80000 miles in each, servicing and tyres was all that went into them, think they both had one set of front pads)
2 new shape, one D3 auto and a B4 Diesel auto, the first one was during COVID, so only did 40000 in 3 years, one set of tyres and a pair of front pads.
Current one is the mild hybrid with google automotive infotainment, thats had a couple of wobbles, but it's 1/3rd prototype, 1/3 test vehicle and 1/3rd production. I'm also on the google beta test program.
Problem with all that up there ^^^ is that you've at least 5 different engines, 4 gearboxes and 3 or 4 infotainment systems covered. So difficult to say what's good and what's bad...
Thanks for the replies. Bit of a mixed bag but a decision has been made..
I’ve been to see a couple. One had not been particularly well looked after so that was a wasted 2 hr round trip. Disappointing given it was a Volvo select car and ‘only the best are selected by us ‘.
However the second car was the complete opposite . 2020 car Supplied and serviced by the dealer. 1 owner. Immaculate. D3 - drove beautifully. More than enough pull. Hopefully it’ll last me!
Good luck. Love my V90 with a similar engine and drivetrain - been excellent over the last 2.5 years.

I'm totally the opposite. Came from a 330e which I never really clicked with, to a T6 R design recharge. Absolutely brilliant car. Not missed a beat in 2.5 years and 40k miles. Powerful, quick and a lovely comfy drive. Yes the touchscreen is a bit fiddly but I use the Voice control to do simple things like change the temp. Typically for a Volvo, the seats are the comfiest I've ever sat in. Would have another no problem (except that you cant get them anymore from new).
