Morning folks,
Looking for a Mercedes Vito dualiner.
I've got 10k, max 12k for something really above and beyond.
What should I look out for besides rust?
Any help much appreciated!
I’ve had my 56 plate from new.
It’s been very good, no rust, only minor sensor type problems (MAF etc).
Had to get the prop shaft rebalanced at about 120000 miles.
Other than that still on original exhaust, engine, turbo etc.
Only just had new discs at 200,000 miles.
Mine’s the 120cdi (3l V6) so very fast, auto box, very nice to drive long distances.
The extra long takes bikes straight in the boot behind the rear seats.
Cheers. I'd really like a 120cdi! Found one with 70k on a 2010 plate for £12,250 just struggling in my head with spending 12k on a van with 70k miles and that's 8 years old.
I bet you could get a year old Trafic Crew cab for similar money...
£20k list? £16-17k buy new. Year 1 down to £12-14 surely....
There can sometimes be rust around the chrome cowling on the rear door release (on up and over doors). This is a common problem and was to do with over tightening of some fasteners.
I have a couple of rust spots on mine but I think that is due to stone chips (2010 LWB Dualiner model).
It is a great van, drives well and comfortable. Rear seats recline which is great for the kids when we are travelling home from races.
Being RWD means it has a really tight turning circle.

Paid a similar amount for mine 2 years ago with 50K miles, so maybe keep looking around.
not much chance of that matt
for 12.5 on traffics your looking at 4 years old 50k on clock
crew vans you can park in a regular parking spot/drive around like a car hold value like mad until about 8 years old for the same reasons the OP wants one- then they seem to drop like stones unless vw.
non crew vans seem to follow traditional curves through out ONCE they come out of business leasable conditions - 3-5 years it seems.
Yeah the 120 or 122 are great engines.
I test drove a T6 180 Kombi and it was gutless compared.
70k really is nothing for a V6 Vito, mine is on 203000 now and still goes like new, the engine spends most of it’s life between 1k and 2k revs.
See if TheLittlestHobo checks into this thread, I think he has plenty of knowledge of both.
and fwiw , the vito is a nice driving van , does feel like a different class of van to a TVP (traffic/vivaro/primastar - which are all same vans) the interior is just better thought out and feels less van like - theres not really any comparison between the two.
I'm on the hunt for Dualiner too - seem to be a lot at the 15K mark, less than that and you seem to be looking at mega miles or the other end of the country to me.
Planning to sell my T4 Kombi when I find the right one.
Should I worry about wheel spinning on grass with RWD + auto?
Cheers for the input. Reassuring to hear about the engines going well.
Anyone know how robust the auto box is on these?
Mines done 215,000 on an 08 plate. Condition is more important than mileage but 12.5 k seems a lot for the age. I would prefer to spend the money on a younger van with more miles.
Auto box is bulletproof. Had zero problems with mine.
just got a 111cdi 2008 dualiner auto. Really like it but had a few teething issues so look out for;
Rear wipers have an issue where water from the washer jet which goes through the spindle get in and sits there and seizes the mechanism. £65 motor off ebay and an hour of fetlling sorted that. You can get a rebuild kit but my armature had fallen out! There is a workaround of drilling a couple of holes for drainage.
Heater fan only worked on 5. There is a resistor pack that goes. £25 off ebay and 15 minutes got that sorted.
Auto had a small leak at the electrical connector. I got the oil and filter changed with a new connector for £240.
The suspension was a bit clonky, the van is lowered on H&R springs, drop links f&r sorted that cost about £60.
Try and get the rear comfort seats, fold better and also recline 🙂
Is there an easy way to spot comfort seats in adverts?
I have a 55 Traveliner, bought at the start of the year. 232k miles, seems in relatively good health but a few niggles. Rust is an issue though, a leak at the top of the tailgate so I have a hole just above the handle. Something to fix soon I think.
Comfort front seats have two adjusters on the side of the base, one for seat height, and one for base tilt. You can usually see these in ad photos.
I'm afraid I don't have a similar clue to spot comfort rear seats. It might be that the seat back is split into three separate foldable / reclinable sections. (Actually quite certain after looking at some ads)
Oh, and do check that the seats operate. I viewed a couple where the rear seats didn't work in some fashion.
Oh, i think they are galvanized after a certain date (2009?), which means less rust. There are some rusty fittings on my 62reg though.
Comfort back seats are split in three and have hard plastic rear shell outer two should have armrests too.
thanks!
What's the road tax like on the 3.0 V6 120/122 engines?
