Do shoes dry quicker with newspaper inside them or not?
Stuffing a shoe with newspaper soaks up the water from inside them. But then it also seems to keep it there for longer by stopping it evaporating?
What does STW think about this vital question? Or is there a third way that I’ve not considered?
Yes then no. Newspaper for a while to soak up as much as possible, then remove and circulate air to maximise evaporation. Third option is two runs on the newspaper, but only for very absorbent or wet shoes.
Have you considered a shoe dryer?
Ours gets a lot of use during the winter.
The other key thing is take the insoles out, so at least if you have to put the shoes on damp you have dry insoles, which makes a surprising difference. Until your feet get soaked again ten minutes later of course 🙂

I think that newspaper draws the moisture out from leather/synthetics or whatever because it's relatively quite absorbent. The surface area of the crumpled up newspaper is greater which allows for faster evaporation of said absorbed moisture. But yeah, change the damp paper a couple of times. Quicker with paper than without. Unless you force dry of course.

TJ has it - paper works fine if you change it regularly
