Hardly a unique to Edinburgh experience.

Did he leave his bike in the van that advertises what is inside quite spectacularly?!

Todd Schumlick, Intense Factory Racing team manager, told the BBC Scotland news website Aaron was very upset by the theft.

He said: "We ran out of space in our specially secure van and had to put his bike in another van overnight in Edinburgh.

"They ruined the door of the van and managed to get it out of a side window as it didn't have wheels on it.

Without wanting to get into victim blaming, I wonder what needed to be more secure than the bike the chap wanted to race on?

See Travelodge bike in the room. Done.

I'd say not many places a bike would be safe in a van like that. Still....bastards

Not great but opportunists will try every opportunity...that van, unfortunately, screams attention so naturally someone will try.
Certainly doesn't change the fact it is wrong but with wheels off, it should have been in the room.

Now I have seen that last picture, it looks like the frame was sitting on the back seat...with the van screaming 'Steal Me'.

Victim blaming shouldn't be a thing but, wow, that was just daft. Travelling to World Cup and his race bike is left in a van screaming 'High Value Stuff Inside - Steal Me!!!!!' Talk about making it easy for the scrotes.

Probably a stupid question, but will there be a spare he can race on, or is that his Fort William event over?

I think I read that they had sourced a spare for him to race

The bike turned up on Gumtree so it might even have been retrieved by now. My original question still stands though - what was more important than the bike that filled up the "specially secure" van?

If only there were some kind of lock that could be used to attach a bike to some part of the van.

The bike turned up on Gumtree

You would have to be jumped up on something pretty special not to appreciate that putting a bike so distinctive straight up on gumtree within hours of stealing is not going to end well.

No common sense was expended in the making of this story.

The Gumtree advert screamed someone thinking they were funny rather than looking like a genuine pikey selling it

Don't know if it's just me but Edinburgh does seem to have a bit of a problem. If a bike is knicked on one of the FB pages or groups it seems to be mostly Edinburgh, closely followed by Inners. Edinburgh motorcycles also feature heavily in the stolen posts.

Edinburgh bike thefts are common because people thinking licking their bike to the metal railings in the stair well us secure.

What they end up doing is providing a quick release system in a nice quiet stair so you can just wander in and out until you find a suitable target then kick the spindle out.

I can see how this wouldn't be a great security method.

Depends what you've been licking before hand.

I have a security guard for this...

Gwin has won without a chain, this is just the natural progression of that. He will run down the track clutching some bars shouting "barrp" and take the hot seat. Just you watch.
