We have just upgraded our Virgin box (ie, we said we're leaving so got a discount + a V6 box, faster broadband etc). So how do the two boxes 'talk' to each other? Can you record on either and the content appear on the other? Will it essentially increase my available storage space? It is what the interweb seems to be saying but I can't believe anything until I read it here.

Cheers

Don't you have to return the TiVo?

They are separate but you can record on either so long at is connected and registered. Playback is only by that box too. The V6 we have has never not been able to record a program due to clashing with another due the 6 tuners and storage has never gone over 40% yet whilst the old V+ plus Tivo was always over 70%.

They don't want it as I am staying with them - it's the old VTV box they are replacing - they said they are trying to phase them out anyway.

Reading more about it, I think the two devices have to be connected via ethernet to share content and that won't happen as they are at the other end of the house to each other.

Won't your existing TiVo box be 'deregistered' as part of the registration process for the V6 box?

I'm surprised Virgin didn't want it back. They sent empty packing boxes and return labels for both the TiVo and Smarthub router when we received our upgrades.

No, the guy on the phone specifically said we should do it as they are phasing out the VTV boxes.

Anyway, I am sure the engineer will sort it all out on Saturday.

Ive just done the same thing and we have been asked to return the old router and tivo box in the packaging the new ones came in. There was even a returns label to stick over the outward delivery instructions

Mine is being installed by an engineer so I am sure I will find out tomorrow if he takes it away with him. But as I said, they specifically told me I could keep the TiVo box as they were phasing out the VTV ones so that would be the one going back.

Update - as promised, they took away the VTV box so I have a new V6 and the original TiVo is now in the bedroom.

However the engineer said that the boxes can't be connected and they haven't even had any training in how to do it! Not a game-changer for me but it would have been nice to have had that functionality.
