[Closed] Virgin Media Superhub - Wireless Printer Issues

I have just upgraded to the Superhub2 to gain the 152Mb connection. This bit works fine.

All of my devices work fine - MacBooks, iMac, iPads, iPhones etc apart from the printer.

It will work for about 5 minutes and then can't be contacted.

I have applied a reserved address of 192.168.0.230 (You can't use a standard staid address with the Virgin hub, just a reserved address which I think is the same)

If I switch it off and then turn it back on it will be usable for around 5 minutes but then just drops off again.

I can log into the printer directly by using the above IP address.

Any thoughts or experience with this?

Does the printer have a wifi standby mode if it's not being used for a period of time?

Not sure, what is that?

For reference it is an Epsom WF7525

I've just tried again and nothing can print or scan to/from it but I can still access it directly using the IP address.

Some wifi gadgets have a sleep/standby mode that kicks in after a period of inactivity.

Could also be a limit (in the router config) that sets how many devices can be connected at the same time

Does the printer work OK if it's connected with a cable to your comp?

OK no it's not that as it was working before the upgrade on Wednesday.

It's not a limiter as it will connect up to 50 devices.

Not tried the cable as the computer is remote to the printer. I will try it with an ethernet cable to the router.

I had problems with my Superhub 2 with some devices dropping out or not reconnecting as expected (no printers here though). After a bit of digging its always seemed security related.

Can you check if the device is happy with no security on the router: just to help diagnose? I set up a guest network to do this (but that's probably pretty useless for a printer in reality).

Thanks for you responses.

After having a lengthy call with support in India they have tweaked a few settings and so far it seems to be working.

They did mention setting up a guest network but so far if would appear unnecessary.

Working from home tomorrow so that will be the real test.

Well after Virgin's tech people getting involved things went downhill overnight.

All my devices would connect to the hub and I could print. However the hub had now dropped it's internet connection and wasn't visible to Virign's UK support team.

In the end a full rester to factory defaults got everything back up and running but the original printer fault came back.

What I have now down is to turn off the printer's WiFi and connected it with an ethernet cable.

It now works as it should.

Bikes are so much easier to work with.

Out of interest, did you upgrade from a Superhub 1? As they are rated for speeds up to 200mb, so the only benefits v2 brings is improved range.....well, and knackered WiFi printing 😛

For the record, I have a Superhub 1 connected to a Epson XP-412, and it work fine. So if there is any tips you might need, such as my settings, let me know.
