Anybody flown with them? I've just booked to go to Orlando with them next year, and am currently finding less than complimentary reviews on trip advisor, etc.

Never had any problems with them.
The first class lounge at Heathrow is bloody lovely.

Only work trips on the ahem, Upper Class. Can't fault them. Best way to fly.
Even offered me a wheelchair when my knee cartilage popped out on the flight 😆

Don't say that zippykona! I'm flying economy from Manchester, with two deranged children who by that stage will have whipped themselves up into a universal studios crazed frenzy. I will never see a first class lounge again!

I've flown cattle class with them from manchester to orlando and back. They're great - if you check in early enough you have the option of more spacious seats for 40 quid or something. good inflight tv film and music, good attentive service etc...

what are the moans about?

Seems to be mainly about poor service / old and tired looking planes, and a couple of whinges about kids not being given their complimentary back packs. I was just surprised, as I always assumed virgin were one of the best airlines.

Hmmm, I'd hazard a guess it's a handful of folk just kicking up a fuss over not much... who have not flown much with other airlines... Delta, AA etc.. all run much older/tired decor aircraft. have you searched similar reviews for other airlines?

Hear, hear!

I don't use Virgin myself, but have friends who are regular business users and they all seem very happy with the service.

To be honest, any holiday flight to Florida packed with screaming kids amped up to the eyeballs on fizzy pop is going to be a hellish trip. Especially one from Manchester! 😉

I flew to San Fran with them a few years ago. Cattle class. No complaints other than the ridiculously small amount of leg room. They've probably changed it now with all the DVT hype, but it was almost painful to stay in my seat for more than an hour at a time and i'm only 6ft..ish.

I won't fly with them again.
Cabin staff were rubbish and argumentative.

I had to get my own drinks of water after asking (very politely) 4 times.

We were on a round the world ticket, and after flying with Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand it was such a let down to use Virgin. Felt like Ryan Air, but longer.

BTW I'm 6'4" and I had an emergency exit seat, so my space wasn't too bad. The people sat next to me were 5'5" at the most and couldn't have opened the door if needed in an emergency. Why do airlines insist on selling these seats?

You're right cp, you always get folk that have to moan about something. I'm trying to recall whether I've ever had a bad flight with any airlines. Sri Lankan airlines (think they were called Air Lanka at the time) were a bit chaotic, and the staff on an air France flight to Paris a few years ago were less than friendly, but nothing that would make me go on line and slag them off. Anyway, even if the flights a bit meh, we've still got lots of tacky Floridian jollity to look forward to!

Always had superb flights with Virgin, good food last time on my way to and from New York. Sorted me right out when we got stuck out there due to Heathrow snow, lovely hotel with meals paid for etc. Would fly with them again in a heartbeat.

Not a flight per se, but the service I received from Air France on my one and only time flying with them was so utterly, ball-crushingly appalling that I will not only never fly with them again, but I will also actively advise anyone to avoid them. One snippet of an example, - Problems with flight delays, AF staff member being asked questions by predominately English speaking passengers pretended he spoke no English. So, I asked him the same question in French. He looked shocked, didn't reply, and simply walked away.

There was a whole load more, but suffice to say - Never fly Air France if you can possibly avoid it.

Other than that, in all my years flying, I can't think I've ever had anything so bad as to make me complain. Oh, actually, there was a flight to Singapore once on BA where they ran out of the Chablis. Shocking!

I've flown from Gatwick and Heathrow before - explain to me why these two are oasis' of calm and tranquillity, and Manchester isn't? The chip on my northern shoulder is trembling damn you!

I was a bit disappointed with BA when I flew with them to New York, but only because my expectations were perhaps a little high - at the end of the day, they didn't do anything wrong, they're just an airline, and my days of seeing the flight as part of the holiday are long gone.

Overall they are pretty good. Have had 2 shocking flights with them primarily due to poor staff but to be honest you get the occasional bad flight with most carriers.

Mitch, I always approach each and every flight expecting to be underwhelmed. That way, anything good is a bonus! 🙂

I've had no problems with them at all. They allow you take your bike for free and you still get a full luggage allowance on top of that. Even on transatlantic flights! I've traveled with them on several holidays and haven't had a single issue. Speedy check-ins too. You'll be grand.

Splendid! And I'll be thinking of you all when I feel slightly bilious after eating too much in Dennys then going on the new Harry Potter ride too many times!

I flew to LA and back from San francisco with them a few years back. Only issue was on the way back they made a spectacularly odd decision to put me and the mrs on the middle two seats of a row of four with two single people on the isles. Well weird. At least I got the fit girl.

Plane was fine, crew were fine, but maybe I have low expectations, I've never flow with any of the middle eastern lot.

The in laws swear by Emirates, and fly to Aus with them every year. Then again, they're the tightest people I know, so as long as it's cheap, they're happy.

I've heard very, very good things about Emirates business class for that trip, Mitch.

My Oz trips have, to date, been with either BA, Qantas or Cathay (Or a mixed, code share trip).

Of those -
Cathay - Best food, magic never emptying wine glass, worst seat (Old style herringbone with all seats facing in. Coffin like)
Qantas - Best dessert wine selection, excellent IFE
BA - Best seat, best check in/ground service, most likely for me to get an upgrade

🙂

Flown Virgin a few times, to the States and Oz. Service was great, kept getting kisses from one of the stewardesses, much to the envy of other passengers. Well she was my gf at the time

Don't expect them to honour any quidco or TCB offers
You may see significant delays/failures of the entertainment system - leave the buttons alone 'til it boots fully or you'll be sorry (if enough other people piss about with theirs that causes a long delay and then full reboot for the whole plane)

two single people on the isles. Well weird. At least I got the fit girl
The Skyslut programme is one of their best features
(or else I suppose could just be that the other 2 booked aisle seats)
