You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm doing some wheels up for a mate and one of the letters has come off.
They are some Cannondale Hollowgram with a baby blue sticker.
It only lost a single letter that I can cut out easily by hand so I'm wondering if I can colour match, how and what sort of vinyl to look for?
For that tiny amount you may be best popping into your local sign shop and seeing if they have some offcuts.
Would that be the right type of vinyl ? (There seems to be different transfer methods)
Standard vehicle wrap type vinyl just has a self adhesive backing.
Chances of you getting an exact match by asking on here are slim to zero. There's 1000s of different grades, finishes, lifespan, adhesives, colours etc...
Easier to take the wheel to a sign-shop and say have you got owt like this! 🙂
yeah, we love people doing that and then asking for a "offcut" (i.e. cut it fresh off the roll for nowt) 🙄 🤣Easier to take the wheel to a sign-shop and say have you got owt like this!
I would ask where you were but I have zero baby blues on the shelf (not something we use a lot or indeed any of really!) Let alone a range of them from which you might (possibly) find a match. (Although, for a bike wheel, literally any grade of vinyl would be fine)
Sorry, not really helpful 😃
EDIT: actually if you came in with the wheel & caught me in a good mood, I could colour-match it from our swatches and then order the closest colour as an A5 sample from the supplier, which would probably be enough.

I didn't say they'd be happy to see him! 🤣🤣
Bit like when someone comes into my print-shop and says 'can you print this photo off my phone'! Oh, they joy of hearing those words - I'm usually experiencing 'technical issues' at that moment and send them to the other guy across town! 🙂

Actually that's really helpful .. I've got access to some RAD colour charts (not pantone that's too expensive)
That said perhaps trying to replace the missing letter is going to look shit anyway ?
Tried Ebay?
I did a quick search, found this without trying too hard. Loads more similar on there

Does it have to be vinyl? As it’s only one letter could you use a little tin of modelling paint?
I think Zilog and I are in parallel worlds.
Send Zilog a screenshot of the picture I’m sure he would be able to match it perfectly off that. He is probably able to match the exact size and font from the 1000’s he has at his finger tips! 🤣🤣👍
